The popular opinion is that currently, horses are the more worthwile mount (But I think donkeys are cuter! ;D). The donkey is slower, as William said, and only carries 5kg more.
However, if you have difficulties controlling the horse, the donkey is a little bit easier to handle because of the lower speed.

No. Without saddlebag, a bare donkey carries 30kg. A bare Horse carries only 20kg. Maxes with best saddlebag, then it's 75kg Donkey, 65kg Horse. Each skill in "Carrot and Stick" in farming adds another 10kg.
That 10Kg makes a big difference when you are harvesting or taking goods to NPCs to sell.. That's 50 more cabbages or 200 unprocessed Rye/Oat/Wheat. Think is same on Flax but not sure atm. Once precessed, is 1000 more of the grains and stalks.
