The files just aren't compatible. However, if you search for .wgs files, those are the save files for Gamepass.
Its not for the same game but it works the same anyway, just remember to make a backup for the save file and also note that you will have to change the file format on the save files

I dont have xbox but thank you for the info. I am sure it will help others
First I followed the steps here: https://www.reddit.com/r/DeepRockGalactic/comments/e7hptr/how_to_transfer_your_steam_save_to_windows_10_and/
Then I realized it did not work by just copying a file and rename it to "m1" (I called my save game "m1" in the game).
So here is what I did:
1. Goto this folder in Windows Explorer:
C:\Users\<UserName>\AppData\Local\Packages\ToplitzProductionsGmbH.MedievalDynasty_xk3erba5yp89y\SystemAppData\wgs\0009000002521626_00000000000000000000000077DF806C\2959B73972314A8E9BE39CA0553D3369
2. Sort by date
3. There are always two files with the same date. One is the savegame-label (2 KB in size) and one is the save game (2-4MB)
4. If you have sorted by date I guess you would like to copy the newest savegame to Steam.
So copy the two files (one is ~2MB and one is 2KB) from the exact same date and time to the folder:
C:\Users\<UserName>\AppData\Local\Medieval_Dynasty\Saved\SaveGames
By the way: If you have just downloaded and installed the game in Steam you need to start a game and save it so the folder "Saved" appears.
5. Now you need to rename your two files accordingly:
a) Rename the 2-4 MB big file "m1.sav" (or whatever you wanna call it instead of "m1")
b) Rename the 2KB big file "m1_Label.sav"
6. Et voilà: Boot up the game in Steam and load the "m1" save game
