I mean. in the past they have always been shown using scythes.
BTW, And I've never actually seen my hunter, sorry, huntress, actually leave the hunting shed let alone use a bow. She seems to be welded to one spot permanently
That said, usually the farmer's animation does depend on what tools they have. The sickle they are using wouldn't be in any chest at that point. You would only be able to see it in the details of the barn as tool currently in use.
Edit: we asked dev for advise and he asked for a savefile so they can check
I went back a couple of years of saves and finally found a sickle in storage - it was earlier this year IRL before I took a couple of months away from the game. Don't remember why I made a sickle, probably a mistake. Anyway that's where they got it from (they must have run out of scythes at some point). Since they don't put it back in storage when they aren't using it I'll just have to wait for it to wear out.
Take's four strokes of a sickle to cut a block but only two of a scythe but all the kneeling and standing will be good exercise for them (unless they end up with rheumatism in old age
