Are logs still more efficient than firewood?
Hey guys, been a long time player of the game and decided to take it up again. I remember at one time it was more efficient to have lumberjacks ONLY produce logs because they were the best at generating heat, something about firewood was consumed more than logs were, and villagers used sticks to heat before logs (unless there was firewood, they would use that first). Are mechanics still the same or have they been improved? Is firewood now better?

Calculations are key here.

For example. I have a village of 6 besides myself, without perks or upgrades on house, that's a demand of 6×30=180 wood

For 180 wood, firelogs are the most worth. A log gives 10, a firelog gives 5, but you can make 4 out of each log

For a demand of 180, I need 180/5= 90 firewood, so my lumberjack needs to produce at least 90/4= 21,5 logs

Best is, to make sure your lumberjack gets those log, preferably a little bit higher since these numbers are only for spring/autumn, although winter and summer are same combined as spring/autumn combined.

Now there are 3 options:
1 let your lumberjack produce part or all the firewoodwood
2. Let your lumberjack collect stick if he doesn have his 100% filled
3. Combination of 1 and 2
4. Leave it at only amount of logs needed

I wouldn't let a lumberjack only gather and not create something else because durability of the axes(5 for logs, 1 for firewood and planks iirc)

A log gives less "wood" than the amount of firewood you can get from it.
The only real downside to consider is that cutting down wood into firewood takes time and tool durability, which could have been used to get more logs.
But since having no firewood more or less also means not having access to sticks, it's definitely worth it to make firewood.

In the very early game, your woodcutter will probably not be able to do both so you will probably need a second woodcutter (and/or craft a batch of firewood yourself every year or two).

So no, it was not changed (you can get more "wood" by only getting more logs) but it is intended to be that way as far as I understand it (to keep woodcutters relevant in the long run and give more weight to better house materials to save firewood).

if your woodcutter only produce logs, it´s more wood-fuel per day as they make firewood and the need of logs:

100% log
2 logs / h * workers level = 20 wood / h * WL
and 10 HP of Axe / h * WL

or

33% log and 67% firewood (selfsufficent)
0,67 * 4 (firewood per workstep/log) * 5 = 13,4 wood / h * WL
and 2,32 HP of Axe / h * WL

But if you want storage sticks in your ressource storage you have to deliver every singel house with logs and this will get a full time job during the work time. Because your villager burns firewood > sticks > logs > planks in this order. And your woodcutter needs tons of axes for that.
It´s better to have firewood for it.

Probably easier to put the sticks in the Smithy or the Workshop then, but I agree it's still better to have Firewood.

and you have to collect all sticks self. If one of your woodcutter collect sticks, the would immediately burn.
