My villagers are stuck at 7% happiness?
I have had two villagers for about 5 days now (one man and one woman). I have plenty of food and resources for them, and even a few stools around for sitting. They have their own house together.

Their happiness at pinned at 7% and not climbing at all. What do I need to do to get them happier? They haven't left yet, and I don't think they are in a relationship yet (no kids).

their happiness is affected by several things :
- something to eat (have a food storage with food in it)
- a house
- a partner (both should be close in age to get in relationship)
- a job (assign them to a job that matches their highest skill will raise their happiness)
- and fire (have logs , sticks or better firewood in a ressource storage)

While food and fire are common and just "be there or not" you can raise their happiness with their houses. Assuming your villagers are not in relationship but have firewood, food and a proper job

- the small house gives around 10-15% - putting doub on it will raise the happiness by around 5%. Too bad that the receipt for daub is at such a high tier that you will never need it because until you get it - you already have tier 2 houses and they need limestone.

- the medium house will allow a happiness of around 30% - with limestone on it you will reach around 35%

- the large house will provide a happiness of around 40% - 50%.

relationship raises the happiness by additional 10% and being parents give additional 10%

most of my villagers are between 50% and 60% because I only use the medium houses. I dont like the big houses because they look so empty inside.

If I want to move my workers from simple house to medium do I need to build a new house and then destroy the old one? Or is there a better way ?

no thats the best way - it takes a while to destroy a house and build a new one at that location. Even with best tools you will need a whole day for this. And your villagers will be homeless that time - this makes them really upset ;)
I always have a spare "guest house". Just a simple small house (low tax) for villagers that get their house upgraded or for new villagers until I find a nice spot for their new house.

Use the edit function while building a house. Stone is better than sticks. It's a bit more durable too.

The houses help a lot. Stone houses covered in limestone to help insulate. Then get them wives.

Actually I build my first home with stone, to get enough stone I sell enough stuff to buy a pickax then go to the tunnel that has 2 villages by it with no bears to get all the stone needed. My other first thing is the woodshed you will need that next door to make planks for the roof.

Do they have nice meals? It seems the higher the nutrition the higher the quality the higher the happiness. I'm not sure about this, but it really seems that way. You should make sure there are plenty of quality meals in your food storage house.

Do they have a nice house? This I am sure about. The better the house, the happier the people. All my people start off in stone houses with wood shingle roofs. Add limestone as soon as you can to upgrade them.

Do they have job in what they're skilled? This seems to make a difference. People that work in one of their best areas seem to gain a few percent more on their happiness than those who 'just have jobs.' And unemployed gain nothing and might be penalized a few points.

Are they married? Married peasants are happy peasants.

Do they have the necessities? Firewood for cooking and heating is important. Without it they get tetchy.

+1 This.

ouch not all.. building a house really only takes like 3-4 minutes if you gather the resources beforehand.. and once you get to the later game have a spare house is utterly unrealistic... i slowly delete all my other buildings to make more houses to fit my population.. just hit 79

That's not a thing. Unfortunately. You can test this by changing the stock in your food storage and see if it has any effect on their happiness. Done that, had potage as the best thing with a decent nutrition value for years, removed potage and left them with berries, roasted meat and eggs, the mood didn't decline over 2 seasons, then I've put meat pies on the table for one season which is better than potage, only for one season since they are a pain in the a** to make, mood didn't increase in that time period.

As someone else said earlier in this thread, food is (at this point in time) only a yes or no thing.

And i really really hope that changes at some point!

On a sidenote, getting high mood doesn't change anything, at least the productivity is solely based on the villagers skills. The only thing that happens is that villagers will leave if the mood is getting too long in the negative, which so far i've only seen happen if you don't supply them with food, firewood and housing (haven't tested how low the mood needs to get for how long until they leave the town)

Their house should also be near a resource and food storage.

Range to storage buildings, are the buildings villagers are working in, doesn't matter at all. That's why ressource storages off the village next to caves to "transport" iron are a thing.
You can set buldings they work in i.e. mines far away, they will "work" as in producing stuff, on their way to work

As far as i know in regards to prepared food, unsure/disbelieve u get happiness for it however prepared food offers more food value to villagers ie: instead of having to keep supplying 100 roasted meat, depending on tier of prepared food it could only take say 10-25 to match that 100 roasted meat.

Keep in mind that this topic is from 2020 when the game was still in EA. Since then a lot has changed and the original people in this discussion might not be around anymore and most likely will have figured out their initial issue by now :-)

You are indeed correct that what specific food they get or how much variety there is, has no effect on the happiness of your villagers.
