salted meat
why have salted meat on here if it does change anything you get the some health and if you sell it its the same price as just cooking regular meat its not worth the risk on trying to get it.

Salted meat keeps longer and can still be used to make potage. There is no risk involved.

yes getting it bears hang around the caves
yeah the primary gain is length till spoilage. if you disable spoilage in the custom settings, ignore salted anything

spoilage is reduced but your thirst level will rise eating salted meat or fish

I know of 1 without a bear and thats the north cave, although I think some people have seen a bear east of the cave just not really at the cave like the southeast caves bears are northwest of the cave but still pritty close. build a shed and let your worker get salt if you really want salt without even having to get close to a cave.

It's actually pretty easy to have huge amounts of meat spoil and just go to waste if you don't look after it, same as berries and many other aspects of the game. I had it happen to me once; I focused on leveling my hunting skill over an entire season, the result was like 100+-something meat gathered in total, can't recall exact number but. It was quite a haul.
Then, spring/summer came and that was the year I had already decided since that time the last year. "This year? This year is the year I stop being poor, it's all Flax all day long, all night long, all profit, all the Bows, heck with socializing we're going big scale farming."
Well, the end of that Summer after harvesting the fields I could of sat there and cooked the meat for however long it took so it didn't spoil, but that wouldn't of been very "only Flax every second, all day every day, we're threshing and spinning up this monster harvest" and then realizing how many logs I was going to need to make all those bows and max my profits out at all would it?
Nonetheless, if I'd of just salted that meat... that'd of been a bunch of food instead of a bunch of rot.

Salting reduces the spoilage of meat to 33% rather than 50% over a season if it's kept in inventory. This explained it for me: https://medieval-dynasty.fandom.com/wiki/Rot. Spoilage is less in a non-food chest and even less in food storage. Salted meat in food storage loses only 9% over a season vs. 12% for meat. I've been overwhelmed with cabbage and meat ever since I put a couple of NPCs on the tasks. I've cooked potage and stew and sold them to reduce the overage. I also put all spoiled food into the chest in the Barn, let it rot, and then make fertilizer. So, I guess salting increases nutritional value and reduces spoilage ... it wasn't obvious at the beginning. Right now, I'm farming flax since it provides a lot of material for all sorts of important things. I'd have to progress in techology to utilize the grains for breads but am content to reap the rewards of flax farming. ... love this game!
