Villagers cannot share houses anymore?
Just wanted to check if anyone was having this problem. I already built a house that could house three people, I go to another villager to hire two people for my settlement. It allowed me to hire them but when I cannot seem to get the second new villagers to move into the available house.

It just says Homeless. Am I doing something wrong?

All houses are for two adults, one man and one woman. The rest of the beds, be it one or two, are for their children.

Weird. I could have sworn that in previous builds, you could have a mix of male and female in a small simple house

It could happen that two men or two women moved into the same house automatically when you recruited them. However, they refused to be assigned to it manually in the menu by you. You could and can also have family units in the same house: mother, father and children (brothers, sisters).

My newer Houses will only accept 1 Resident. Tried all combos Male/Male, Female/Female, and Male/Female. The only way for me right now is to build a new House for every person I try to recruit.

Pretty sure it's a Bug or possibly part of a new system that hasn't been fully implemented yet.
yeah, that would be a bug. I havent had issues with Male/female combos in mine in version 2.0.2.

I also started paying attention to matching ages more closely (someone mentioned that "hook ups".....baby making? :) happens only if they are closer to each others ages? not sure if that is true, but I decided to try matching people +/- 2 years in age

My game was started prior to the 0.2 update, and I was able to place a combination of any two adults in the same house. When I built a house after the patch I moved one of my existing families into it (I only had to move 1 adult and the spouse and kid moved automatically - I like that).

Then I recruited a new male worker. In the past, new villagers automatically went to an empty house, but this new one had a status of 'Homeless' until I manually placed him in the empty (old) house. I'm OK with that too.

But, when I recruited a second male worker, I was not able to put him in the same house as the other new guy. It seems we can only put male+female couples together in the same house now. I see this as a problem.

I have one couple where the guy is 4 years older, and they had a baby. Another couple with a 5 year difference has not. I also have a couple where the woman is 2 years older and they are still childless. I made some changes to those 2 couples and put them with different partners. I'm waiting to see if that helps.

The developers are trying to make houses for family units and not use the houses as barracks.

Thank you all for the replies! I am just a bit annoyed we cant put at least two men in a house anymore. And what if the woman doesn't like the man she's moving in with! The shocker! This is a game where you are not even allowed to speak to anyone below the age of 18 and parents eye you cautiously and ask you to behave when talking to their daughters (like that seamstress of her daughter Kinga) ;D

Edit: Had to edit 'a man and a woman' to 'two men'. Don't know where my brain was going, I just woke up XD

I too have come up against this housing problem. It is all very well making it for couples only, but the amount of houses you can build at any one time, is too low to accommodate the amount of workers needed to service all the buildings - Lumberjack, Hunter, Farmer, Field worker, Gatherer etc. etc. I am now at my housing limit of 8, but only have 2 houses. I need four workers (two couples), so need another house, before I can move on. This is rather annoying and does not seem to make any difference to the outcome. You should be able to move people around later when your housing limit goes up.
ooooh, but she gives you permission to......well spoilers.... (I always hear river song's voice in my head reading that....)

are you assigning workers to storage buildings? if so, you can move them. they arent needed/dont do anything...unless you want to for aesthetics of course. no mechanics for it.

I am not sure I am seeing the same issue. I have 10 houses, 2 resource, 2 food store, 1 tavern, 1 barn, 1 smithy, 1 sewing, 2 woodshed, 1 excavation, 1 workshop, 1 fishing hut....and everything is fully staffed with an empty house.....and I still have everything staffed and an empty house. 23/25 buildings (still early days on a new build). once I unlock 30, i might expand to include some animal husbandry to mess around with it. so add in 1 henhouse, 1 pigsty, 1 goose...whatever, 1 sheep....pasture?, and 1 cowshed. I have room for 2 more houses in that build, 1 currently empty + 2 to build - 6 more people. The higher tier buildings I believe allow more workers, so at that point it is time to make hard choices about the direction of your village. what building to focus. Once they increase to 50, then the need to make the hard choice will go away again....

Now I did all this math in my head, so I certainly might have miscounted. I still support building limits, though fine with it if they gate increases to say dynasty rep over 50.

Thanks BeardedProtagonist. You are obviously much further into the game than I am and probably a better player than me. I have only played RPG's so far and this is the first strategy game I've played. I just feel it's a bit daft for the player to be able to construct resource buildings, but not the required housing for the people needed to acquire those resources. The couples only idea is an unrealistic one. Surely there were single people in the medieval world who shared accommodation. Also, it would be helpful if the game could tell you this, before you go out and recruit a really suitable worker who you lose because they are 'Homeless'. In the early stages at least, you should be able to have 3 adults per small house, regardless of age or sex.
hey! no prob. and I definitely dont see myself as any better. essentially this game is a work in prgress. they have a lot of gears turning and most of us expect these many mechanics to mature over time as it gets closer to release. I am really just trying to explain how the current limitations work so you can work with them. Survival games are definitely a different animal than RPGs. I love those too, and tend to bounce between each.

currently the idea is family centered so they are working within that. maybe eventually they will broaden it. dunno though. a lot of the late game plans are still kinda unknown. They have mentioned city status. so maybe smaller footprint houses built on each other like rowhouses?

so for the record, and working within the current mechanics, I have started by building up a lot before recruiting anyone. then once I hit the chapter quest where you have to have 10 ppl and 5 workers is when I go on a recruitment drive.

this helped planning. I also only recruited couples....meaning for every man I recruited, I recruited a woman.

certainly not the only way to play, just the way I have so far.

oh also lesson learned, I tend to try and keep at least one building slot open for upgrades till more is unlocked. that way you can build the upgrade before destrying the old. might be a better way, just how ive been doing it

Good Luck to you! happy gaming!

If you accomplish the main quest chapters, you earn reputation very fast and your building limit rises very fast also.
