What is up with Reputation?!
So my reputation fell, back when I was struggling to pay taxes, and now I've only got about 5400. I posted a rant recently, because wandering villagers told me they could only join my village when I got it above 5000. I did, then they told me it had to be 7500.

Well, today I talked to one who's been sitting by a campfire in front of my house for YEARS, freezing his butt off every winter, because he keeps snubbing me. (His disposition is 73 now, so he's willing to join.) I have a beautiful village with tons of food and wood, and everyone has large stone houses with limestone on them.

I didn't expect him to take my offer of a FREE INSULATED STONE HOUSE, because my Reputation is still about 5400. BUT... he now tells me he can't join the village until my Reputation is 9000!

Why does that number keep going up? This is ridiculous. Who does he think he is? Deposed royalty? I don't need him, but he's in the way and won't leave. He should be the one begging for a roof over his head, by this point.

What an idiot! :steamfacepalm:

Children are the reason why the number keeps going up. They don't require you to have a certain amount of reputation, but they count towards your population and push the number up for recruitable NPCs.

Every child that is born in your village will add about 1000 DNR required to recruit a new villager.

At this stage, you need 4,600 DNR to recruit, and without any more quests to complete, you will just be chasing your tail, and get nowhere .

As to an earlier reply to you, it may be wise to save this game and restart a fresh game

That makes absolutely ZERO sense. Why would the amount of children in a village INCREASE the amount of reputation needed to encourage a new villager to join? Do all the villagers hate children? Where I come from, people move to towns that are flourishing.

And, no, I've put far too much work into creating my village to trash it all for some idiotic game mechanic I don't need anyway. If this guy won't join the village, I just want him to leave. I can do very well without him.

Then don't talk to him. Wanderers despawn when you ignore them. When you have talked to him and pushed his disposition up, it will take a little longer, but eventually he will just be gone.

It's not amount of children(although they are part of it), but total population

That explains why a recruit required 11000 rep before i built a house for her.
I built a house and got to 11000 rep, then she required 12000 rep.
My town must have had another baby.
Thanks for the info.

I suspect he and my wife are having an affair. They're always hanging out together by the fire when I go to bed, and sometimes she doesn't sleep in our house.
