FISH MEAT

Any way to turn the types of fish into fish meat???
Do I need a fishing hut to get fish meat? Other than buying fish meat. If I fish with a purchased fishing spear or crafted net I get different types of fish I can only turn into cooked fish, not salted, dried, or even plain fish meat for cooking/baking.
I ask because I don't want to use up a building slot just for fish meat alone.

Yes. You can craft any type of fish into fish meat at the workbench in the fishing hut. Or you can let your NPCs do it for you there. For now, those are the only options if you want fish meat specifically.

There is no need to build a fishing hut, in my opinion, so yes, you can avoid building it.
You don't really need fish meat for anything, besides some very rare side quests which you as well can ignore because they're not really paying off.
You can feed your NPCs with meat based cooking, they'll not ask for fish in particular.

So - there isn't anything crucial in the game which forces you to build a fishing hut.
Just my Opinion. :)

meat, fruits, bread, milkproducts... to stay healthy (and happy).

Yeah, this is a recent bug in the Lavish Meal quest. The quest asks for fish meat but now we have pike, roach and perch, not fish apparently. Also we cannot make fish pie etc.

While we are on the topic, if would be pretty cool if the fishing hut included a row boat you could take out on the rivers. Of course then the devs would probably need to introduce a river current, and some sort of swimming mechanics beyond the easy situation we presently have.

No bug.
You can "craft" fish meat from all kind of fish which you're able to catch.
So it's different from how it's been before, when you simply catch any fish and use it to fulfill the quest.
With the latest patch (as mentioned above) you need to catch a fish, craft fish meat out of it inside the fishing hut and use it for the quest and also to produce fish pie etc.

Again: no bug, it's rather a new crafting type.

You can also buy fish meat in Jezerica vendor.

But yes, you do need fish meat for that story quest and some repeatable seasonal quests as well, but those you can also easily buy if you want to do that quest.

Even though it's a old thread that was bumped..

You can spear fish with regular wooden spears, no fishing hut required.
A hunter lodge upgraded to level 2 allows you to produce salted fish..
Granted spearing fish with a wooden spear isn't a easy task, but it can be done.

Needless to say, smaller the fish = harder it is to spear them.
Don't make the larger fish easy to get by any means..

Have gotten several fish while duck hunting.
yeah, I've probably missed more fish than I got!
But ya know the old saying about
"At first you don't succeed, try try again!" Fits here also.
Ranks right up there with attempting to take on a bear with a stone knife.
Except the fish won't kill you! lol
