Do you have to put your horse in the Stable?
Do I have to put the horse in the stable every night or even throughout the day for it to feed? Or will it take it magically from the assigned stable food supply if I am out riding, mining, etc for days?

I only ask as I just got my first one and wanted to know.

Once you go to sleep, he will spawn back to his stable. UNLESS he is overloaded... in that case, he will state where he is.
I found the panful way while doing some mining at the end of the season. I teleported across the map back home... he did not :D

That is very helpful. So is it at this time the horse eats, while you sleep?

If I was crazy and did not sleep the whole season (working through the nights) would the horse starve?

What if you don´t have a stable and still buy a horse? I was thinking about doing it but since i don´t have a stable i am not sure wether it is a good idea.

When I bought the horse, it asked for the stable slot at that time to be assigned. So I do not know if you can complete the horse transaction without a slot in a stable to assign it to.

Nope, you cant... with any animal. Yet later, you can move animal away from building, making it homeless :D

1. You can only buy a horse when you have a stable.
2. The horse does not need to be at the stable at any time. It can eat magically on the go as long as there is feed in the stable. And it can also breed with other horses in the same stable while you are out riding...
