Diplomacy Skill
I have the feeling this skill levels too slowy.
Considering it has many (actually useful) traits, I find it a bit weird that I'm struggling to get xp in, all the while I'm running out of good crafting skills to pick.
Selling stuff,
buying stuff.
Romancing all seems to do very little to increase it.

Am I missing something?

Doing quests will get you like 10 points per towards the skill.

Hmmm,
I'm doing quests left and right,
My survival skill is 7
My crafting skill is 5
And I'm barely able to reach Diplomacy 3
Even though selling a lot, flirting with every girl in town
and doing quests everywhere.

The best way is just quests and selling a lot of stuff, the xp depends on the coins amount, not the trade pieces. Flirting is only a few xp for the time spend.

Talk to all the npc increase the skill too as long as the tech tree. Small talk improves approval of you. I like to goof around in town by just hanging out talking to as many npc as possible, the more you talk to the faster it goes up. The romance stuff counts towards attraction more you might get some skill if you choose polite answers.

If you have events enabled you can Quick save before changing season and hope a traveling merchant visits your settlement as it can give you diplomacy experience for 200 coins, then reload if no event occur.

In map mode you can see what is coming next the present is always in the middle with the past to the left and the future to the right. Next season says King Greedy, which my guess is a challenge of some kind.

what? do you really on the right game forum? Or misunderstand the whole map tab?

1. current temperatur,
2. day of season and time,
3. the current season,
4. the current year,
5. your king (the byname is the hint what kind of king it is)
6. the relation to your king and how it affected your tax and your villager mods.
That´s all of information on top of the map. Nothing about future or past.

Is small talk really improving the Diplomacy skill?
I thought I tested it with 0 results.

Chat all the girls up improves it as well. Romance

If you get a wife early, this skill only really levels with selling goods as romance ends once you have one. Many of the skills seem to level very slowly, with cutting down trees going to building, but harvesting logs from the felled tree going to extraction being annoying. Hunting also seems to be a drain.

Small reminder that this thread is almost 2 years old, and since then you also have the option to change the customisation in an existing game to increase the xp gain all the way to 1000% to make your skills improve faster.

To be fair balancing options shouldn't need to be user generated. I didn't realize this game was that old for basic balancing issues to have not been addressed already is kind of terrible and gives me even less hope that gaping issues will be addressed at all.

What one finds too slow another finds too fast; I personally have set mine to 50% because I enjoy a slower unlock. Adding a slider so you can customise it to your own liking is therefore a great solution.

-can you people please stop necrobumping-
Previously, I didn't place much importance on diplomatic skills, but with my new game mode, I've added new rules to only sell items to the appropriate vendor and, besides, any gold coins I have left after paying my taxes must be destroyed by placing them in a bandit camp (when they disappear, so do the contents of the bags/crates).

Now having better prices skill really makes a difference.
