Farm Question
Allready have a huge flat area picked out for farm
I will have Flax for coin, cabbage for food
-What do i need to grow, for my own animal feed?
I don't know how many animals i'll have in total, probly start with 1 each and go from there
but do they eat around the same as people?

Do I "need" any other plants?

For animal feed you need Oats and Rye (and straw). Flax will make you good coin (and, when you want it, linen thread from the stalks) 3 meat and 2 cabbages + a wooden bowl get you a dish of potage, good basic food. Of course you'll need fertiliser for the fields. Probably start off by buying that (or manure or rot if you have a barn to turn it into fertiliser). You'll also need the barn for making animal food and threshing grain.

So yes, you have the essentials.

Thanks ill put all 5 on my list
oats, rye, stalks, cabbage, flax

How big should those fields be?

I will buy the fertilizer and starter animal feed first, till my farm and barn get up n runnin
Am currently mapping out my settlement, deciding where to put stuff, im 90% done placing stuff

you need only a kick start fertilizer. After your first cabbage harvest, throw the half on the ground. In the next season 1 cabbage spoiled to 4 rot. With 10 rot you can make one fertilizer. And you get 8-12 cabbage per field.

At the current version there is a bug and your animals won´t eat. Till it fix you need only one animal food per stable :D

The size of your fields depends on your village and the amount and kind of animal. Plan the relation 1 oat, 1 rye, 3 wheat. The wheat is for the extra staw need (5 straw and each one oat/rye). With the wheat seed you can make flour, for the bread to feed your villager.

I would say 10x10 at most. Building larger fields may cause a problem with efficiency. However, you can build as many as you want/need/can supply with farmers.

Anyway, me personally, i plant everything (except for poppy that is pretty much useless).
With plenty of farmers, you can have huge amount of food. You can then sell it, or process it and then sell it.
In my current run, i am trying to produce so much food, i will be able to turn it into fertilizer. It should be possible to turn this into the very profitable bussiness.
Btw. seeds have great weight/cost ratio. They are great for earning money and from all crops, you get more then one seed from planted crop.

My 60 people village has 3000 farm tiles total so far and it is fun (important to say i increased food consumption at the start of the game so i kinda need fields a lot :D )

Flax gets you a lot of money. I started a new game in the latest version and planted 100 flax in the first spring and wound up with more $ than I knew what to do with haha, I still have thousands after buying a bow and backpack and bag and some tools.

In latest version, they added better source of easy money alchemy vials made from planks

I don't recommend rushing into having farm animals. Wait until you can produce enough crops to satisfy the animal feed requirement. Sounds like it's currently bugged, but when working, animals consume a lot. Hard to keep up with that if you're paying for it.

Haha, wow. I looked up the value of them and what it takes to make. That's broken as heck. I did the whole making stone knives thing and bought flax to plant. Wooden vials is like printing money. That's worse than the whole selling unripe berry thing that was there early on.

I wonder why they did all this early access and having people test stuff for months, only to go "Hey guys we have the release version!" and dump a bunch of new, untested, and unbalanced stuff out as the 1.0 release. Seems like a strange choice.

only got 7 people bout to start year4, been busy planning my city.
How much does the food requirements go up? once i get into 50+ villagers?

I decided to go with 5 fields, that are 5x5 each with the above seeds planned.
Will consider more if the food cost goes way up with 50+ people

Oh side question: Do i leave the equipment in the stations themselves, or leave in the storage shed(resourse storage)
example, pickaxes in the excavation shed vs resouse storage?

I have heard some say they are not using tools from thier buildings, But dont know this first hand. I always have my tools and seed in storage.

I usually do something similar to the 5x5 fields, but i work them myself to build up the seeds i will be using. once i heve enough, usually cabbage, i start making 16x16, for rot and food. By this time i just have my future wife in the village. ( usually a hunter )

Just remember, wheat grains and such are your seed. I personally do not let a barn worker make flour. Had too may oopsies .....
If you dont mind micromanaging, you can rotate crops. You need a full year to grow your own feed. Oats and Rye are different seasons.

From playing in beta my suggestion is make the largest field possible in your area, You dont have to use all of it. And can subdivide later on. But stake out the biggest area, Then manage the crops in the management window. You dont even have to plow it till you need it.

Manure can be abundant so you might want only one or just a couple of hogs
