How long does it take for my villagers to get level up their skills?

My Hunter is doing his job non stop for a little over a year now, and i thought that his hunting skill would go up after a year of working. Is there a mechanic i missed or does it just take longer?

I noticed last night there is a status bar under the villagers skills in the management tab that shows you thier skill level and the increase to the level it also depends on the workers base skill and the specific job if your farmers only work 2 seasons a year they only get the xp levels for the time they are working.

Thx, looks like my hunter is about to level up, but my lumberjack will take some years for it

It very much depends on their profession. Some of them level pretty quickly like hunters and farmers, while others do not seem to be leveling up much at all. I do not know yet if it is also the case in 1.0, but in the previous version miners (from actual mines, not excavation sites) leveled up the fastest among extraction jobs, if memory serves me right.

i noticed my farmers almost moved no leves while in a barn, but when i set up a new field and basically set them up to do all the work from scratch they leveled up like 3 levels (they need to be in the field building and you have to have seeds in it and tools and bags).

But y, farming the land or tending to the pigs makes the farming skill go up very quickly.
