eh yeah.... put down a farm-plot, dig it and then remove it.... dunno if it stops from costing if u dont finish the entire plot or not, didn't test that lol...
but that's the way to do it I guess... farming is always the slowest

For me, I create a couple of large plots, hoe, fertilize, seed, and harvest. Rinse repeat win.

yeah, just create fields and hoe them and delete them and repeat til you unlock the early buildings. you should get pigsty pretty fast this way.

fertilize and seed costs money early game that might be best saved for pigs and taxes and recipes. so early game if you just want to unlock the early farm buildings, you can just delete fields after you hoe them an repeat.

to plan for mid/late game, it is best to build as many houses as possible, and hire as many workers as possible. and fill the barn with field workers. it can take up to 3 workers to operate a single field, due to the way they work. the workers will get you tech exp to unlock that horse. you do not need to do it all manually.

one bad part about the field workers. as an example, if you have a rye field, and spring comes and that is 3 workers managing that harvest and they will reapply fertilizer and hoe it... before moving on to other fields that just need spring seeds applied. so it is best to have many field workers, and maybe smaller fields so they are more productive.

only 1 worker will do a job on the same field. meaning you can't have 2 workers applying seeds on the same field. just 1. same with fertilizer and hoe, only 1 worker will do that job on that field, and they will do it until it is done or evening comes.

i do 10x10 fields and it is still a problem when seasons change and workers decide to prepare a field that has no seed needed that season, rather than go plant seeds in the fields that need seeds that season.

For what I've seen, most of tech is gained by doing quests... You can get like 370 for chopping 20 trees... This is kinda annoying, every 1st day of season I run around whole map just to do those quests...

Back in early access it was determined by people on these forums that 8x8 was the best size for workers. I have always done that size since, unless I was doing the field myself.

they can complete 10x10 just fine, its more about the amount of field workers. you'll want a lot. it is nice they prepare for spring by fertilizing before spring. the problem becomes when you harvest and sow during the same season. that workload requires a lot of workers.
