Villagers Water
I take it the red water drop is water needs. I have two villagers that need water but I have 3 buckets full of water in the food storage shed. Any ideas what I am doing wrong?

Build buckets and fill them in the river, then put them in food storage, as Gummi said. When you can build a well, you'll have to assign someone to the workshop to build buckets (old ones get put back into storage to be reused, but they wear out) and another person to the well to get water. Assigning a person to the well seems kind of dumb, imo, but there it is.

As I said I had buckets of water in the food storage. once I assigned a worker to the well the need went away. Manually filling the bucket didn't seem to work for me.

Try putting it inside the villager's house chest

If for some reason it happens again I'll try that, but we really shouldn't have to do that.

I didn't have this problem. I put a bucket of water in the food storage and it worked fine.

Did you perhaps disable the water usage on the consumption tab?

Feels like the well should be unlocked somewhat earlier than current default, if your starter village is far from water it's basically a chore to run long distances for refills and as far as I know my villagers won't walk that far by themselves to do so, or am I wrong?

Villagers will not fill buckets/skins from rivers/lakes, so if you don't have the well you will have to do it yourself.

In EA there was no mechanism to get water for cooking or (player) drinking other than by going to a river/lake, so building far from water was even worse.

Just seems like an oversight, basic necessities (food/water) should come after your first house.

the oversight is that the dev didn't update chapter 6 main quest (covers wood and food) to include water needs.

but the well is extremely easy to unlock in just a few minutes of time. just create a large field, use a hoe on it. delete the field if need be and repeat the process. i advise do this until you unlock pigsty.

i personally focus on tech before recruiting anyone or trying romance. i unlock simple house and build a bunch of them out of stone. that way i can later go on a recruiting spree when i feel i am ready to set up that automation.

Don't rush into building a village without having the tech to support it, or you will have to do these things manually for them. You can buy or steal a couple of buckets and then put them in the food storage. If you don't have a food storage just put one in each of your villagers' house chest.

i built most of this village before hiring anyone or getting married.
was about 40 in-game days worth of work.
i had over 20 stone simple houses set up before i went on a recruiting spree.
i probably hired 40 people in like 6 days.
taxes on unfinished houses was the same as finished houses.
i do know how to make coin so i was fine paying taxes for owning a ghost town for years with no inhabitants, lol...

Then something was glitched. I had no trouble dropping buckets of water in food storage.

Back to topic: i got the same issue as Blaze1961. The villagers just dont take any water from the food storage. I can put as many water buckets in the food storage as i want. It even shows up the correct water value in the managment tab. Only solution right now is to put the water buckets directly inside the chests in the villagers houses which is a pain. Does anyone experience the same problem and can offer a solution?
