What do I need…
I am ready (I think) to bring in my first villagers, and could use some help tbh but I dont know what i will need to keep one villager happy. As in how much of food, water and wood etc. I could use a hunter and a lumberjack to be specific. Keeping them single for a few. But i just sont know how much crap to keep handy. Im vwry disappointed that they cant get their own water though. I have a well and i read from posts im expected to store it for them. This defeats the purpose of the well

NPCs cannot access tools placed in their house chest (the only things they will use from their house chest are food they can eat and wood they can burn). Generally the best place for tools is the Resource Storage building.

If someone works at the well, he will get it for you and store it in the food storage.

A decent home, firewood, food and water are the essentials. The better the house is (stone walls, wooden tile roof, limestone) the fewer firewood they need. Food needs to be cooked. Dishes last longer than just roated meat or fish. Start with one villager before you get many, get an idea of what he requires and if you can provide it. A mistake that many have made was to get too many villagers too fast.

Makes sense!

Keep in mind that they level up the longer they work in their job. So, if you have a lumberjack from the start, he will level up as your village grows and can more easily get enough wood for everyone.

I hired the hunter before you made the suggestion and already regret it. It keeps saying he has no resources hut i gave him biw, arrows. Soears and knives…what else does he need? I put some in hunting lodge and some in resources building just to be sure hut it still says that

Knives. He needs knives. You can see that in the menu where you tell him what to produce for you. Each item tells you which tools or resources are needed.

It updates when he is working. If you aren't checking during workhours, it might not have updated yet.

He just needs knives? No other weapons??? Dis not know that. I had them in the resource building too, but i thought he needed weapons too. I saw it in management but thought it meant the knives was what he was missing. I kept moving them from resource to his house chest

I haven't recruited anyone yet since 1.0, but at least in EA you just needed to put the tools in the resource storage and they would automatically use them so maybe try that?

What Philtre says. Tools either in the resource storage or the chest of the workplace. Food, water and firewood can be in the house chest.

Thank you! That was driving me crazy...lol I just kept moving stuff over and over again. I think I confused my NPCS. I ended up having to hire a female lumberjack cause there wasn't any males with good starting stat there. Im very upset about it cause now i will be stuck with a kid in five minutes in my village. I don't currently have the resources to build another house for her. They are not particularly happy in there daub hous at the moment. 8% meh face. I need to go mining to upgrade their house to rock at least, but I never have time

Any chance they can go to the resource building for their own food and tools? I don't want to have to run to all the houses and workshops dropping stuff of for them..

The expected place for food is the Food Storage building, the expected place for everything else is the Resource Storage building (look at the description panel for any item and it will tell you where it is supposed to be stored). Putting items in individual houses or production buildings is an option; you can use it to reserve specific tools or materials for a specific production building (NPCs won't take items from buildings they don't work in), or to force people to eat a specific food (such as if you have a low-value, less-preferred food that is about to spoil).

Thank you! I love the medieval dynasty community. So helpful without being mean spirited it snarky. This is so refreshing. 🙂🙂🙂
