My villager is thirsty even if he lives beside the lake?
Any idea if this is part of the update and you need a well? I am not sure this was ready to leave early access because I see a lot of issues, even in the discussions they are almost all negative.

You don't need a well, you need to provide water or other items that contain it. You can get it from rivers as well, but it needs to be in the food storage.

A home, food, water and firewood is what you need to privde your villagers with so they stay and work for you. Eventually they will take care of those things themselves. The goal is to build a sustainable, balanced village.

Ah, when I last played they were fine when I lived beside a lake, so now I have to craft a bucket when I don't have it unlocked? And so if I get a villager, even if I have another villager hunting and one lumberjack, the bucket is a long ways for me and there is no more progressing because I am at max buildings, so they will die now

Just put some buckets with water in your food storage and your people will be fine.
Or store food there that contains water, as Goldi said above.
It isn't that hard to understand, really.

Just to have mentioned it, when you start a new game, you can turn the need for water off.
