I am like this as well! I like how we can complete quest as needed for like dynasty points. Otherwise I get lost in doing certain task by the sheer beauty of this game and huge map. I will also get distracted working on my hunting skills in between mining/selling runs. I am very excited for 1.0 and am really enjoying 1.0 release.
I know how you feel. Personally i started the game and spent 2 hours or so running all across the map to find a place where i wanted to build my village, then i restarted the game and headed there directly. I didn't pick a "good" spot, but one i liked, one with a great view, i thought it was a terrible spot from a gameplay standpoint. But while it isn't perfect, it turned out to be way better than i expected.
Now I'm trying 8 day. I haven't made it passed the first year yet, it seems plenty long while on foot.
Although I have game knowledge on my side I was well set for winter. Unlike my 3 day start where I died in winter quickly.
I also sleep at night (for those who can't understand long seasons). My card doesn't have game specific gamma settings and I don't like a bright monitor. In most survival games, night time means I retreat to safety.
I can't imagine a 30 day winter.
I'm currently playing a nice relaxed 30-day season game. My first season I cut short at 21. I'm currently at 24 on season 2. I have no pressure to build up my village because I've run out of villagers.
And I'm cool with that. I get to run around all over. Chop, mine and pluck to my heart's content and even play around switching up my villagers from skill to skill.
Again, would I do this for say, 80 in-game years? Probably not. But, this allows me to one season, maybe 60 years from now, to just slow down and meander for a while for my low-stress chopping, mining and plucking again.
That's just me. I don't proclaim anyone "wrong" for wanting short seasons any more than I say my way is right. But I do like to point out that when people say "how can anyone play 30 days", setting it for 30 days doesn't mean actually playing 30 days. That's all.
Same here. My first play through I went with 5 days which was fine even after (can't remember, 12 years or so) but once I had villagers doing everything the 5th day was more than I needed so the last couple of times I've gone to 4. Gives 3 days to do important stuff and a "day off" when I can catch up on any missed quests or just tweak things in the village, explore or just enjoy a walk in the countryside.
