Sells well, doesn't take up much space. Salting food is abit inefficient by the time you get the option to do it.
Maybe there are some advanced food recipes that require salted fish/meat?
There are some recipes that take Meat, Roasted Meat or Salted meat, but realistically why would you waste the salt on Salted Meat if Roast Meat works for the same recipe.
With the durability not dropping whilst food is in pro[er storage (only on person) there isn't the driver to salt/dry meat for longer shelf life, but if there was, it would need to be a lot lower in the tech tree.
An while I'm talking tech tree, I'm assuming most of the breads/cakes etc in Tavern II which all require X buckets of water (???) would be satisfied with the bucket from Cows (5000 farming?)
There are some advanced recipes which call for salted fish and meat.
