Workers / Farmers - how you get them to work :)
Farmers:
Sooo, after some crappy hours i think i found a way how they work and finally give you some back for the food that you gave them :D

here some hints:
- you dont need the crops that you want to be planted, just some tools and a bag in the barn.
- there is something like a active circle around you where other npc`s get calculated. dont know how big, but if you go to far away they wouldnt get calculated anymore and stay on that position. (this doesnt count for other workers like lumberjack!)

Dont`s: (IMPORTANT)
- let the worker do theyr work, dont help them, dont harvest anything or do anything thats related to their field
- use only one sort of crops at one field - dont mix it (especcially for the big fields)!!!

How to:
If you done anything on one of the field, create a new one, looks like they got confused if you have done anything on a field. You can use your already existing field with the workers in the season after your harvest them.

clear all fields in the management tab that you had till now. Save, Load and look if all fields without any setup. If there are any crops planned, again, delete the setup, save and load till its gone.

Choose a small Size, max 5x5 (btw. its easier to handle some small then one big, because of the dont mix strategy ;)) create some new one and set what you want in the management tab, but only on the newer one. Now, let they do their work :)

Maybe one is a litle bit confused because of the old field, but that should be gone soon. Sometimes it helps to save and reload again, if not, then you have no other choice as to wait till the field is done.

if you want to change the crops, do it in the morning as they harvest or before they harvest. If you wait to long, they maybe just stay their and do nothing, on this point you can save and load and they go back to work.

this works for me now since 2 seasons.

sorry for the bad language :D
fragen dazu sonst auch gerne auf deutsch :)

Yes you need hoes in the chest.
actual, they dont need tools in their chests, this is disabled in one of the last updated for now, will come back later.

yes gout get farming points. same for other workers like lumberjack. to be completely honest, at least the tech-points raise, not sure if these count for your personal skills aswell.

Thank you so so much for this topic!
Helped me alot to figure out what I was doing wrong.

[Edit]

...

Actually it seems the need at least the plow in the barn chest.
Didn't have it there (had it in the ressource storage) and the field worker was stuck in the plowing-animation without actually doing the work. And no tool in his hands.
I put the stonehoe into the barn chest and the worker suddenly had it in his hands and did the plowing.

i think there was another bug, look into the 1.04 patch, they dont need tools and i actually dont have them in there and they work. sometimes a quicksave and reload helps if they stuck, f5 and f9.

For me, only one field worker will actually do the work, and usually not get done in time, FORCING me to help them to get it done in time, and thus causing the issue :/.

Yes, they are SLOW and often hang up. As far as resetting them not sure you must 'save+reload', pretty sure just talking to them and exiting convo will reset them.

As is, Farming the is ONE JOB I insist on doing myself, just because of the economy of it, the cap on workers thanks to Dynasty Points, and the slow rate of XP growth for farming.

Its also worth noting that Field Workers do NOT consume tools, seeds, manure or any supplies other than food and wood from what I can tell.

I think that the skill isn't increased by fieldwork but only by being a farmer. My wife has a skill of 10 but is as slow as one with 2 on the fields but works way faster in the barn or stable

Same for me. It seems like they get hung up on fertilizing so I wondered if I had it in the wrong container. I keep it in the storage. It took me forever to realize the seeds have to be in the food storage. I'm still not clear on the flax seeds. Anyway, if they seem hung up, if I do the fertilizing, they'll usually come out and start plowing but I'm always afraid to leave the rest up to them because the seasons are short and if they don't finish planting, I have no precious crops to feed my villagers.
