best weapon ?!!

so... what's the best weapon to use?
I have played now over 35 hours and I've only been using wooden spears.
it can kill any animal in 3 strikes or less if you aim right also very cheap. 3 throws at a buffalo/bear at the head and it's dead.

but if I were to change to another weapon, which is best in your opinion? considering price for mats / power / hits before killed etc.

Keep in mind that this thread is almost 3 years old from before the game was out of EA. A lot of things have changed since then and the people asking the original question may not be around anymore (and if they are, they probably have found the answer by now :-)).

Melee iron axe, iron cudgel (bandit drops gave early), distance - recurve with bronze arrows deadly on all herbivores, iron crossbow (bandit gift) with poisoned bronze bolts one shots the big 2. I get too much wobble from the longbow to like it but haven't tried it for a while. Am a pretty good shot and can deal with the shot trajectory (thank you Valheim) better than long draw time with resultant wobble. Seems silly that these poor dudes have no shield or sword.

Longbow/iron poisoned arrows, iron axe, iron spear, iron spiked cudgel. I use them all for one thing or another.
