I married a townsperson that was the goose handler. I figured she would make a better wife because she already knew how to choke a goose. Then I learned she came with a 10 farming skill, and everything else is at least a 4.

So the townsperson has better skills than ANY wanderer I have seen. She has 2 7 skills, a 10 skill, a 5 skill
Yeah, we all have plans. But we just end up with whoever will say yes.

Left alt inspector mode. Wanderers show them, townspeople don't.

A wanderer has less bugs and problems, but lower skills. But skills level up when working.

I married Alina, she was a level 10 animal breeder from Baranica (the sheep shed to the west) - employed looking after my chickens, now she's a mum but primed ready for my sheep fold. :)

What bugs? I guess I haven't come across any since restarting this playthrough 4 days ago. Don't remember seeing any with the wife on the first playthrough either, but maybe I am just not paying attention?

Overall it does not really matter much as it seems most people tend to try and have a baby right away thus she will spend 2 years not working anyway at which point you will have at least a dozen other workers.

In general though wanderers (hireable workers around the fires) have lower overall points and a lower cap but you can see what there skills are before you marry them. Villagers seem to have higher overall points and even have 10 in some skills, and while you cannot inspect their skills you can get a rough idea of their skills based on their responses in the dialog.

The responses people give in game are based on their skillset, someone with high crafting skill loves the "nobles robes", "hard working" and "hows your job" lines but tends not to care about the weather much. Meanwhile a farmer loves the "working in the field all day" and "how do you like the weather" when it is nice out but hates being asked "hows your job".

The only one that seems random atm is the "how are you doing" line in which 99% of people love it but a few will just say fine and give 0 relation.

Igna the chicken lady from the village across from where you start is the easiest to marry in game and her stats are fairly average overall (10 in farming) thus it is pretty hard to offend her and even in the pickup lines outside of bragging about your huge coin purse or huge muscles he likes everything else. In fact you can marry her on day 2 of your game if RNG is on your side and if not worst case is like day 4.

I married a girl from the last house on the left in Gostovia. Her name is different each save i think.
She have 10 in farming and hunting, 6 diplomacy, 5 extraction and survival and 4 in crafting. I think these a decent skills as she wont be pregnant (mother) forever :)

If the bugs with wife is fixed the townsperson seem to be a better choice.

I had to restart 2 times, because wife bugs.

Since I married a wanderer (my actual save), I haven´t had any problems with wife.

To be honest, I picked my wife (also a wanderer) for her name and because it made sense in my head-canon: she liked winter, was impressed by my wildlife wrestling and her reply to the "early bird catches the worm"-phrase was the: "yea, not true or I'd be a noble now". I have enough skilled workers for everything else. Besides, her skills don't seem to have any effect on those of the child either. So, does it matter?

The normal wife's get always 10 skillpoints in her jobs. So just look during the day where and what they work and so you know what is 10.
