Chickens or geese?
My building limit will not let me have both to test, so if anyone knows which one gives more resources, please...

I find that hunters gave give you lots of feathers, so unless you need the eggs I wouldn't bother.

+1 for the fold, the wool is more important.

As for the NPCs and keeping the animals in, you can just fence in the whole area. The NPC worker doesn't actually need to get to the building to work, he can just stand by the fence.

Geese gives both feathers and eggs, chickens only give eggs. Though, with only having 4 chickens I get more then enough eggs for anything I need and feathers are kinda worthless.

i get too many feathers from my gatherer so i bought two chicks for 500 next day they were chickens laying eggs

Chickens give feathers too.
I ended up not building or creating geeses, after all they would give the same resources and I can't even use all the eggs that the chickens produce. In addition to being much more expensive.
I see no reason to have them.

plus geese have a larger building footprint. maybe they have a mechanic that's not yet implemented

They should give much larger eggs, soon costing more and needing fewer eggs for the same purposes. But also, being produced in smaller quantities. You know, like in real life lol

get sheep instead. you get wool.
you don't really need eggs, you can eat fish instead and have it to proviide the whole town.
feathers your hunters can bring in for you.
sheep is the only way to get wool so it's kinda a must to have really

how do I build a fence around the fold to keep the sheep from running around all over the place. i know how to buiild fence but wouldn't that keep the npc's out from the told also? there is no gate/door right?

For the time being most NPCs do not neet to acutally reach their workplace. They work during working hours. So, even if your animal breeder can't reach them, it should work. In any case, they cannot starve for now.

While fencing them in works most of the time, they can sometimes still just spawn outside. Anyway, yes, gates would be nice.

thanks. seems like it's a waste to bother then =)

It might just look nice, but so far you do not have to worry that something might happen to them or that they might get lost. They will always return home to sleep and nothing (other than yourself) can hurt them yet.

yeah it's just annoying running around trying to find them to sheer (yes I know NPC does it for me but goes faster if I do it myself)

Try the fence, then. Sometimes they can spawn outside, but most of the time they should stay there. Just try and see how well behaved yours are. ;)

I have found that building the fence with a slight overlap in the area where you would put a gate works. Not sure how to describe it in a way that makes sense, but it creates a sort of maze that they don't get out of. Works for cows, pigs, sheep goats and geese. Hmmm... maybe...
