Known game bugs, where we are at with fixing them, and how to report new issues
A brand new bug thread!

Hi everyone! We wanted to touch base after our latest patch to let you all know where we are at in regards to fixing some known issues. Thanks to your help raising and identifying bugs as they’ve cropped up, we’ve already patched in a lot of fixes, so the first advice we would give if you are experiencing a bug is to make sure you have updated to the latest version of Mini Motorways as there’s a chance your issue may have been fixed already.

Here’s a list of noteworthy issues that have been resolved since launch:
  • White screen with blue grid on start-up for many of our Mac players
  • Ability to duplicate roundabouts
  • Added new audio control: Soundscape
  • Added new hotkey: holding CTRL and clicking can now be used to delete roads
  • Fixed known issues where the end of week upgrade screen can softlock when you interact while it's transitioning
  • Fixed spawning issue with a Daily Challenge in Tokyo
  • We're continuing to work through some of the issues causing cars to stop driving and block up your cities. We have fixed up one issue that affected roundabouts that were near to bridges and some other roundabout issues. If you come across cars that stop driving, we'd really appreciate a screenshot and/or video with any info on what recent changes you'd made to your road network sent through to support@dinopoloclub.com.
  • Updated the counter on upgrades in HUD so it shows more clearly when you have 1 remaining
  • Fixed issue where road tiles sometimes weren’t being returned correctly after roads were being deleted
  • Fixed an issue causing large log files which led to high system resource usage


And an update on some ongoing bugs and where we’re at with them:

I’m seeing a black screen when I launch the game:
Some antivirus software can be fairly aggressive when it decides what is and is not potentially a threat. If your game fails to launch because it cannot load a file, please check if the file has been quarantined by your antivirus program. If a file has been deleted, you can get the file back with Steam’s “Verify integrity of game files...” button. The button can be found by following these steps:

  • In Steam, open the Mini Motorways properties window (right click the game in your Steam library)
  • Click “Local Files”
  • Click “Verify integrity of game files...”

However, if your antivirus tool hasn’t removed the file from quarantine then it will likely remove the file when you start playing again and crash the game. The verify tool can continue to run, but the problem won't be resolved until you have adjusted your antivirus settings to allow Mini Motorways to run or added it to your software's safe list.

For anyone still experiencing crashes or black screens on windows or mac, if you can please email support@dinopoloclub.com with your device info and OS, details of the crash and a log file (instructions at the end of this post) that would be really appreciated! We want to get these fixed asap for everyone and the log files will be immensely useful as we track the problems down.



Colourblind mode doesn’t work for me:
For those who have provided feedback on colourblind mode and the colours in general, thank you so much for letting us know! We're collating all of our feedback at the moment so we can look at the best way to address the issues raised, but we are keen to set up a group of testers to help us as we improve this. If you're interested, please reach out to support@dinopoloclub.com, we really value your input and feedback. We have a few different ideas in the mock-up stage on ways to improve colourblind mode for players all along the colourblind spectrum.


Funky/distorted/static audio sounds:
We are aware of a couple different audio issues. If you are hearing odd sounds when you play the game, try adjusting the Soundscape setting to “Minimal” to see if that helps as this reduces or resolves the issue for some people. We are working on permanent fixes.


Regarding unusually high scores on the leaderboards:
There are two issues at play here - some players are in fact hacking the leaderboards and entering in whatever scores they like, which is an issue that we're hoping to address via patch. However, a lot of the extremely high scores you see on the leaderboards (20k to 200k etc) are technically legitimate even if the game was not designed to accommodate them. There are some cases where certain spawns occur on certain maps and players design their road network in a very specific way, then provided they can avoid a game over they can attain a point of stasis where the map will generate points for hours and supply/demand can feed itself for hours at a time.

Obviously this is not ideal and we are aware these high scores are frustrating to players who don’t use these strategies, but because they involve specific scenarios within the game rather than actual hacks or cheats, we have to take care and do a lot of testing with any changes we make to these scenarios because we don’t want to cause any impact to the way the game functions for everyone else. We have added analytics that trigger when players achieve exceptionally high scores as of today (30/7 NZT) to track how often this is happening. We'll be checking the leaderboards several times a day and deleting hacked scores as we come across them, so you don’t need to report each one.


Daily or Weekly Challenge where the spawns or rules make the map unworkable:
Unfortunately sometimes the RNG that creates our challenges lines up challenge criteria with certain maps and spawns that make for very short or awkward games. We do our best to test them as thoroughly as possible, but occasionally these slip through. No Daily or Weekly challenge is designed to be completely unplayable, so if you encounter one, please continue to email support@dinopoloclub.com and we’ll keep fixing them like we did with the Tokyo bridge scenario.


Instructions to access your player logs:
To copy your logs on Mac to your Desktop, open the terminal and enter:
cp ~/Library/Logs/Dinosaur\ Polo\ Club/Mini\ Motorways/Player-prev.log ~/Library/Logs/Dinosaur\ Polo\ Club/Mini\ Motorways/Player.log ~/Desktop

To get your logs on Windows, open command line (this can be done by pressing the start button and then typing "cmd") and enter:
robocopy "%USERPROFILE%\AppData\LocalLow\Dinosaur Polo Club\Mini Motorways\\" "%HOMEPATH%\Desktop" Player.log Player-prev.log

Then email your logs as attachments to support@dinopoloclub.com - these are invaluable for helping us hunt down rarer bugs so we really appreciate anyone who takes the time. :)

1. Mark columns and roads as A, B, C, D, .... and 1, 2, 3, 4..... Try to draw a road from A1 to B2 and then another road from B1 to A2. An intersection wojld form. But it is impossible to place traffic light on such diagonal intersection.
2. I would like to say again the font being used for Traditional Chinese language in setting option and in chalenge instruction is unclear, unbalanced, with character strokes merged each other and have incoherent weight. Please change or improve the font.
3. And occasionally, in Traditional Chinese UI option, after game end, the destination screen cannot show the map city nams correctly with the text corrupted.
4. Highway cannot be restored immediately after removal before traffix is cleared,.unlike.regular road tiles or bridge or tunnel
5. Building traffic lights in weekly challenge doesn't seems to coumt towards to weekly achievement

Most games end with cars being blocked all on top of each other and unable to move at all. Really spoils the game when you're on a roll. Needs fixing asap please. Also need to stop people cheating on the scoreboards with million+ scores! Will start taking screenshots.

Wrong translation on achiev
The following achiev:
Quatro por quatro
Publique uma pontuação em um desafio diário 4 vezes.

Translated is:
Four by four
Published one score in a daily challenge 4 times

This is not possible because dailies only count your first score, so i research and in English the achievement is:
So Four, So Good
Post a score in a weekly challenge 4 times.

In portuguese should be:
Quatro por quatro
Publique uma pontuação em um desafio semanal 4 vezes.

Semanal = weekly, diário=daily
So this is the only point that is wrong.

Resolution preference does not persist after exiting and launching the game again.

Installing and running for the first time today, I encountered a little - not necessarily bug - user experience quirk?.

The tutorial indicates to me that a couple features (colorblind mode and deletion toggle) can be changed at any time from the Settings, but as far as I can tell without selecting Skip Tutorial, the settings are not in fact available from the tutorial.

An ideal fix might be to add Settings to the menu screen of the tutorial, or even to that of all levels if it's not there yet.

A less ideal, but still clear, fix might be to mention that _after the tutorial_ those settings can be changed.

This one I hope is a bug: I was dragging a road at the time when the weekly choice popped up, and it automatically chose the one where my cursor happened to be.

Same here. Very frustrating since you select something you do not want. Possible solution: 2 second timer before a click is accepted on the weekly choice pop up window.

Even, like, a half or quarter second would do, probably, as long as it also doesn't take its clicks from a mouse/finger that's already down when it opens.

Bug1: vehicles on roundabout have no priority over merging vehicles, which makes roundabouts plain useless.
Bug2: vehicles are braking at each and every crossing, even on left-T. I'd assume that's due to right-before-left rule, but why brake when there is nobody possible from the right? Bug.

Also, game really lacks one-way roads and road priorities (main road, secondary merging road)

Help. after failed game streaming from another (ubuntu) computer in my house - my main (windows10) machine will not load the game. only show some windows controls (See here[drive.google.com].
Help? I managed to run the game a few times before I tried to stream it to the other computer. How can I "reset" the game to load normally?
I have tried to re-install the game and delete the stream appcache + stream and computer restarts.
