I'll try to correlate fixes for HUMANKIND in this thread so it's easier to find.


OpenDev Beta Users Delete Previous Profile

The devs appreciate your participation and feedback from all the OpenDevs.

There is a known issue however with pervious profiles causing issues with the game.

If you participated in an OpenDev before please delete your previous profile from

My Documents/Humankind


DO NOT UNINSTALL EPIC

This issue has now been fixed.

Update the game to the latest version to address this issues


Force Vulcan Mode

One potential fix for performance or crash issues is to force Vulcan drivers. Add the command line option to force this

* Right click -> Properties on Humankind
* GENERAL tab
* Scroll down to "LAUNCH OPTIONS"
* In the box put in

-force-vulkan

* Click the "X" in the upper right to close the window
* Re-launch the game


Disable or Uninstall Audio Enhancement Tools

Some audio enhancement tools may cause the game to crash. So far known programs that may cause issues are

Nahimic (installed on MSI laptops)
Sonic Sound 2 (installed on Asus laptops)
Sonic Suite
Razer Chroma (and possibly Synapse) - note your headset will still be usable
If you have any of these programs in your system tray, please kill them and try relaunching the game.



Mac Missing Executables

Update Your Video Card Drivers


Always make sure you reboot your machine after installing the drivers, just to be safe. Then try relaunching the game.


Laptop users should force their Nvidia/AMD cards

Use the Nvidia Control Panel or AMD CCC to force the game to use your built in GPU instead of the Intel one

Try running both Steam and Humankind.exe as administrator

  • Go to c:\program files\steam\
  • Right click ->Properties on steam.exe
  • Click the Compatibility tab
  • Check "Run this program as an administrator

Then try doing it for the Humankind exe
  • Go to c:\program files\steam\steamapps\common\Humankind
  • Right click ->Properties on Humankind.exe
  • Click the Compatibility tab
  • Check "Run this program as an administrator

Reinstall DirectX

Go to

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Steamworks Shared\_CommonRedist\DirectX

And the dxsetup.exe

Then reboot your computer

Reinstall VCRedist 2012/2013/2019

Go to

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Steamworks Shared\_CommonRedist\vcredist

And run the following

2012\vc_redist.x64.exe
2013\vc_redist.x64.exe
2019\vc_redist.x64.exe

Note you must run all 3. 2013 is needed for Logitech RGB systems.

Then reboot your computer


Reinstall Dot Net

Go to

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Steamworks Shared\_CommonRedist\DotNet\4.5.2

Run the NDP452-KB2901907-x86-x64-AllOS-ENU.exe

Then reboot your computer


How To Report Turn Pending Issues

Please note 'turn pending' is not a singular bug but multiple different bugs that manifest the same way. Which is why its important to report such bugs because your particular version of the bug may not have been reported or known yet.

Please report your issues on the G2G forums and upload your impacted save game as well as your player.log and diagnostisc.html


Verify the Integrity of the Game Cache

If you have tried all of these workarounds, and are still having trouble running the game, or if there are other obvious missing elements to the game (such as missing fonts), validate that all of the files are actually installed properly:
  • Go to your Steam Library
  • Right click -> Properties on HUMANKIND
  • Click the "Local Files" tab
  • Click on the "Verify Integrity of Game Cache..." button

Post your system specs and details about your issue

It's important for the devs to know what your system specs are if they are to troubleshoot issue. Try to put a baseline information such as

Video Card:
CPU:

You can also go to the Steam Client and go to
Steam-Help-System Information

That window has a lot of technical stuff about your system that can help the devs identify things

Also please upload your DIagnostic.html file from

My Documents\Humankind\Temporary Files

as well as your player.log file from

C:\Users\<username>\AppData\LocalLow\AMPLITUDE Studios\Humankind

Also when describing your problem be as descriptive as possible. They'll need to recreate your problem so more details is always better. Adding screenshots can also be helpful in describing visual issues.

You likely need to force the game to use your AMD/Nvidia card
A little hint for Devs: Games runs nicely with tutorials OFF. It won't load with tutorials ON.
Start fixing from there.

Yesterday I was having crashes during the load into a new game, around when the progress bar is at 70%. I tried all of the fixes listed, except the the Dot Net one, before I needed to sleep and none worked. I then uninstalled and started a reinstall/download before sleeping. Today, after the initial download the latest patch was downloaded as well, but the game would still crash on start of a new game. I then found a thread talking about removing/renaming, EOSSDK-Win64-Shipping.dll.
Path: Humankind\Humankind_Data\Plugins\x86_64\EOSSDK-Win64-Shipping.dll
And that worked!
This actually makes a lot of sense why it would be crashing on release when I was able to play the Betas just fine, there was probably no Epic Game Store overlay active in the Beta builds.

Does anyone notice that this game disables all printers in Windows 10? Upon exiting the game, I find that all my printers are disconnected. Adobe, Word, and Excel cannot find my printers. The solution is to reboot. It's kind of annoying especially when you have emails or documents open besides the game.

Please fix this issue too.

Got it to work with some tweaks yesterday. Today, I'm just totally dead in the water. This game needs a bug patch in a big way. Folks shouldn't have to be going through this number of tweaks and potential fixes for a game to work.

My issue has still not been mentioned?

Just another point. When i try to do the 2019 option on this fix the installation fails. Says a more up to date version is already installed.

The game is not working. I read the list of instructions. Why do I have to follow so many steps? I bought the game a year ago and I want it to work. Other games don't have this problem.
I'm not sure if this is where I should post my crashing issue, but here goes:

I just had 2 game crashes within about 20 mins from each other. Both crashes had the same consistent pattern - I was in game reading some text and the mouse would become laggy, then my next mouse click brought up the Windows blue loading circle, and then a Windows 10 popup that the program is not responding and to close it.

1st time I was reading an event message and deciding on an outcome.
2nd time I was reading my new ancient era culture description and bonuses.

OS: Windows 10 (latest updates)
GPU: Nvidia 2080 Ti (latest clean install of driver since last night)
CPU: Intel i7 8700k @ 4.8Ghz

I just checked the Diagnostic.html file, and instead of posting the enormous amount of info on this thread, at the bottom of the file when the game crashed last (15:06), I receive a "Async GPU request has error" about 10 times in a row.

I am using MSI Afterburner/RTSS and a small overclock to my GPU, so I'm wondering if that's causing an issue? It normally doesn't in most games, but you never know.

UPDATE: I believe I have solved the problem. I removed my GPU overclock in MSI Afterburner (although I'm still running the app for fan control) and my game hasn't crashed yet in about 3-4hrs of play. Prior, I crashed twice in 20 mins. If devs see this post, you might want to add this to troubleshoot other's issues.

Do you have a gamepad/joystick/any other controller attached? If so that might be your issue. At least thats what caused my laggy mouse.
PS - disconnect them - should solve your problem
Switching to the vulkan drivers made my game crash during a save with the "memory cannot be written" error.
Hey, boys so ive had this problem with game crashing at 70% when loading into the frist game and i finally found a solution...
Had to download DDU ( Display Driver Uninstaller) Did uninstall for both AMD and Nvidia Card drivers, since ive had them both on my PC in the past year, just reinstalled the drivers for nvidia again and voila, everything works perfectly, zero problems so far :)

OS: Windows 7 64-bit
Video Card: GeForce GTX 970
CPU Intel i7-2600 @ 3.40GHz

The game crashes when I'm attempting to start a new game at around 60-70% loading bar.
If I delete my profiles and start tutorial or if I change the settings to small map and less AI opponents it sometimes instead hangs at 50% and freezes but doesn't crash and the music still plays.

I have tried:
forcing Vulkan
updating video card drivers
launching steam and Humankind on administrator
installing/repairing redists listed in this post
deleting my previous profiles (I played in the December Lucy OpenDev beta (without technical issues).

E: In player.log in the crash I've found that before crash is "Vulkan - Out of memory!"
