Currently, there’s nothing in there about combat roles. I guess I need to progress all the way through the tutorial before trying to figure this stuff out
日本語版ですが、Tutorialのまとめ

Japanese version, Summary of Tutorial.
Button icon display is Xbox controller.
Roll is determined by the roll compensation level of the equipment. Basically, the one with the highest Lv is selected from the total roll correction Lv of each equipment, but there are also special ones.
You can find all the answers when you search in Japanese, but I refrain from leaving a link because it's bad Spoiler information.
Thanks for the attempt tho. I did some trial and error with my meager equipment and was able to swap Ryza to offense and the other two to defense. Somehow, as a group I’m doing WAY more damage now.
What is the Special row. It just says ‘Novice: no bonuses’. I guess I’m gonna see some special gear later on?
Support is the only role that I've noticed to actually have any kind of meaningful impact on combat honestly but most of the game isn't really hard enough to really worry about it.
Also in the status page you can press Y or X ( 360 controller ) over a character and it will bring up all the roles you currently have unlocked.
