[ERROR] [Vulkan]: Failed to load LUT "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\RetroArch\shaders\shaders_slang\crt\shaders\guest\lut\sony_trinitron1.png".
If it's the same for you as it was for me, if you go to that folder you should see the "lut" folder is missing, and thus the "sony_trinitron1.png" file is too. I was able to solve this by downloading the non-Steam version of Retroarch, using the online updater to download the slang shaders and then copying the "lut" folder from the standalone Retroarch into the Steam Retroarch folder.
Yes, I eventually got it working in a slightly different way. I copied the lut folder located in the RetroArch\shaders\shaders_glsl\crt\shaders\guest\lut folder into RetroArch\shaders\shaders_slang\crt\shaders\guest.
Apparently, the retroarch devs did a "big update" to the files in crt/shaders/guest and moved the lut folder into a new folder named "advanced". This change broke all the presets that expect the lut folder to be in \RetroArch\shaders\shaders_slang\crt\shaders\guest\lut
Your solution is a little more elegant than mine so I will mark it as the topic's answer.
