[Spoilers] What's a strong party for this game?
I just got Kanji and I can't decide how to arrange my party. Should I drop Chie because I hear that Kanji eclipses her in damage and usability? And who should I drop later for Naoto since everything I've read online says shes insane?

I generally say that each party member has an unofficial counterpart.

Yosuke/Naoto are red mages.
Chie/Kanji are monks
Yukiko/Teddie are white mages (also with a huge damage spell)

Obligatory "you can choose whatever and it'll work" goes here, but I always tend to stick to one of each for a "balanced" party.

I'm considering sticking with Kanji, Yukiko, and Yosuke until I get Naoto, then I'm dropping Yosuke. Does that sound solid?

That's probably the best all around party in the game.

For the most part you can use whoever you want, until you plan on doing some of the crazy hard optional bosses and stuff. Chie is better than Kanji later on in the game, but he's better right when you get him and falls off a lot later compared to Chie. Honestly though, just use the characters you like and that you plan on maxing out the social links for first, that makes a huge difference. I used pretty sub-optimal teams my first playthrough and made it through just fine!

Naoto is very OP. So you should be fine.

Which party are you talking about? Kanji/Yosuke/Yukiko or Kanji/Naoto/Yukiko?

Naoto/Kanji/Yukiko.

Naoto was buffed heavily in Golden. She is rock solid.

Alright thanks for the advice, I'll keep yosuke around until then. C:

yosuke still useful for his buff skills masakukaja and youthful wind for endgame meanwhile Naoto buff is also good but way to many using SP not good for long battle unless you had chakra ring for her to reduce SP usage then yes Naoto is more useful than Yosuke.

You can really use whoever for 99% of the game, but once you get to the game's final months, Chie/Yukiko/Naoto has really good synergy overall.

Short guide to effecient party building!
MC is by far the strongest fighter and as such, you should pick companions who allow him to focus on killing enemies. That means you want them to: 1) heal. So Yukiko or Teddie; 2) buff and debuff. In mid game guys get variety of such skills so your optimal party is Yosuke/Kanji/Teddie. However, once we hit December, you should be able to fuse persona with debilitate skill which applies all debuffs on one target. With that you can swap Kanji or Teddie out if you want so. The main change comes with third evolutions however. With them girls gain some seriously cool moves, while guys get junk. Chie's third evolution is particularly important as her ultimate skill allows her to perform buffing duty singlehandedly. So for the final part of the game the best party is Chie/Yukiko/Naoto. For further effect, take them to hot springs: Chie and Yukiko 5 times (learn bufudyne and mind charge respectively), Naoto twice (replace agidyne with ziodyne)

Punchline: you don't need to follow any of these advices to best the game on any difficulty

I used Chie for physical (Power Charge/Agneyastra/God's Hand), Naoto for every element except fire because for some reason she can have all elements plus both instakill AoEs plus megidolaon with mind charge and Yukiko for healing and fire damage (her fire boost, fire amp and a fire damage boosting ring all stack). January spoilers regarding a final skill unlock her third awakening skill is Burning Petals, severe fire dmg AoE, which with all the above buffs M E L T S, her lack of mind charge isn't that big of a deal (edit: I had no idea she can get mind charge from the hot springs, thanks boss ^. Thats just silly). The 3rd awakenings for Chie and Naoto arent too shabby either, just very costly SP wise so realistically you wont use them much outside of boss fights.

With the above in mind, you can try your hand at fusing something like a Auto-Maruku/Masuku/Mataru persona (I chose Trumpeter since you need him for Margaret anyway and he has good native resistances plus you can easily give him mind charge with megidolaon), equip it and let the team handle most fights since they cover all the bases already.

Best party for me at end game is Chie full phys build, Yukiko Dia/Agi build and Naoto Insta/Buff
But who really needs friends in battle when you can be like Demifiend :steammocking:
