I do not remember the Contrarian King being this broken, lol
I remember fighting it and not thinking much on it at the time. But for some reason fighting it now is getting me literally butt molested on every attempt. One turn in he wipes by party with rampage. I have no memory of this. Can I leave this boss till later? Do I have to beat it before the next dungeon or I lose the chance? If so that's a real pain...
This'd be a cakewalk if I had a Persona that blocks physical.

Oh wow, that late? Okay cool. I seem to remember something about dungeons disappearing after a while but okay then. Thank you.

i just beat him at level 16 (normal difficulty), he only did rampage once but I had him with hit/evasion down so he missed.

Rakunda, media, defense buff, Dekaja. Stack up on items beforehand

Debuff the hell out of him,

Debuff the hell out of him,

THIS

he was molstering me like crazy with rampage and i couldnt figure out wtf was happening

Its best to lower his stats constantly and not let him recover at all whilst using Yukiko for healing, Youskae for sonic punch (as this can make him fall over) and use chie and Yu for attacking with ice and lightening

I imagine its just like how Persona 5 Royal rewarded you much better than the original version for making good use of buffs/debuffs.

Well he kicked my ass on p4 normal(because i first played in april on a emulator so may memory works haahaha) but now i got him on first try

your main focus should be just reduce his hit chance that is a easy win

Dungeons never disappear. Contrarian King is like level 25 or even higher. So beating it after second dungeon or at the start of third is best.

The optional boss at the end of second dungeon is actually easier then Contrarian King.

Reducing his hit is also a great option since Rampage already has a lower chance to hit. Also, if you do beat second dungeon first, you can get items from Rainy Day monsters in second dungeon (one of the floating faces, Rainy Bro's or Sisters dunno which one) that allow you to purchase +40 eva armor. (+ Auto-Sukukaja)

I beat mine at lvl 15 though on Normal difficulty, had Obariyon that was strong against physical attacks, consistently casted Sukunda to CK and Sukukaja from Yosuke to MC. I think he did 3-4 times of Rampage in the battle, and killed 1 I think it was Yukiko, and missed or only got 1 hit to all others.

Contrarian King still depends pretty heavily on the RNG gods if you are facing him when he first unlocks.

1. Like others have said, debuff him as much as you can.
2. Buff your party.
3. Equip a Physical Resistant Persona on MC.
4. Hit him with Ice and Lightning attacks.
5. If you Crit him and he goes down, DO NOT All-Out-Attack him. Hit him to make him Dizzy and use the extra time to renew your buffs and debuffs.
6. Have a Diamond Shield item to use on your party if he lowers your Defense, otherwise you are 100% screwed and WILL die.
7. Pray to the RNG gods that he doesn't spam Rampage.

If he spams Rampage, unless you are massively over-leveled you will die. It took me 6 attempts to beat him. Two attempts to learn the strategies above, and 4 attempts to get lucky enough to avoid Rampage spam. My third attempt he literally fired Rampage 3 times in a row. At Level 19 that's just an instant "You Lose" no matter how well prepared you are. (I had Hit/Evasion Up on my MC and the rest of the party, and had Physical resistance from the Persona and his Rampage attacks hit EVERYONE EVERY TIME. FML.)

Depending on how often he uses Rampage he is either easy or impossible. Kind of annoyed how heavily RNG factors into this boss.
