I'd say they're more or less the same. But I do prefer the story in P4 more because I love murder mystery.
They definitely nerfed the first boss in Golden. On the PS2 version it only had a weakness on the add that it summoned, which was WAY tankier and basically couldn't be killed. This meant that the only way to exploit this was with Mabufu, which would rip through Chie's low SP pool at the best of times. You also couldn't get All Out Attacks to burn through its health before it could pull off some of the full party fire attacks or the insta-kill combo.
They also nerfed the second boss such that its adds are much less tanky, and it's much less likely to be able to hit you with a multi-hit Rampage combo that does like 270 damage.
4 is a lot older too so it's dungeons are basically randomly generated hallways. It's nothing cool like palaces in 5.
Oh and I think 4's OST is better.
Erm, on Hard that first boss is still very hard to kill. It can also still oneshot character with 200 damage~ Its all party fire attack comes pretty early too, as does the insta-kill combo.
Burning its health definately doesnt happen if you arent overleveled.
I dunno what difficulty you played on then, and which now. And what level you are. But to me it feels roughly the same as it did back then. The main difference being that Fusing Personas isnt an RNG grind (which is much appreciated).
Actual gameplay difficulty doesnt feel easier at all.
In terms of story telling it’s basically the same thing
The overall tone of the game is more upbeat, very relaxing atmosphere and not nearly as much angst as P5. I think this is the reason so many players consider it the best; the whole game feels like a fond memory. Both are very good games.
