Thanks, what about grinding, should I back out of the whole sorak level from the point where you fight the soraks and just 'map' back and forth grinding small encounters?
The good news is that's one of the game's harder fights so it will get better.
If you rolled for stats and have characters with 12 or something in their main stat (e.g. strength or dexterity for fighters), you might want to restart.
Besides the mentioned tactics there is also a room on the far side that you have to crawl into through a hole. The opening at the end limits how many soraks can rush to fight you at once. If you have things like entangle, grease, sleep, or the best option if you brought a druid is the thorn spikes you can cast around a group of soraks. There are lamps you can light with spells like sparkle or flame bolt, these make it so soraks can't regenerate so position yourself near them. The one shaman that flies dies fairly easy if you interrupt his concentration after he casts flight. The cantrip annoying bee is actually very effective at doing this. I also like to place the druid spell moonbeam right on the square under him he rarely moves away from it and it is designed specifically for shapeshifters which the sorak fall into.
Party were all level 3 - most will have a level 3 party at this point unless they thought to grind before the Sorak's Head mission.
You can only go back as far as the beginning of the excavation site, you can't get back to world map and HAVE to go through with the Sorak mission.
Bruce's suggestion about keeping party in sneak mode helped a lot; was able to drop three Soraks before they were keen to me.
I also had to set difficulty to 'Story' and then set 'Custom' Difficulty giving myself 1+ in all areas and enemies 1- in all areas.
Game dev's didn't account for unorthodox party builds = for example I have a Thief, a Sorceress and 2 Fighters.
I have beaten this fight with a full class group for every class in this game on authentic difficulty and above. It isn't that hard once you understand the mechanics and how to manipulate them.
He is right there are some much harder combats then this one further along the main campaign.
Authentic until I get BS'd again.
On that note, Fire up: WeMod. There is a trainer in there that will do anything needed.
This may not be the game for you. The main attraction is the combat, and if your reaction to a tougher fight is "how do I cheat my way through this," then you may not enjoy this game. As others said, this is hardly the hardest fight in the game. Your party composition is not "unorthodox." It is entirely vanilla and perfectly viable.
There are some fights that are poorly designed in this game, but this is not one of them. I don't say this to be mean, but the problem is neither your party composition nor the fight design, but your tactics. If you want to learn, you can and will get through it, but, like I said, this may not be your type of game, and that's fine, too.
