Report a translation problem
As someone who plays VtMv5, this game has some of the most railroady crap I've ever experienced in the WoD, including Dominate use. That should tell you something.
There's at least 1 NPC where, if you talk to them for a certain phase (2 or 3?), as far as I know, you WILL be forced to take part in an activity no matter what, and that activity is a 3 person raid on an SI base with no prep. You can't say no, you can't leave, can't call in backup, you can't call in favors, you can't let anyone know where you are, you aren't under the influence of a mental Discipline to explain the BUT THOU MUST, and you can't do ♥♥♥♥ but watch basically.
It's hardly a choice when you click "I'd like to go talk to this person" and all roads lead to attacking an SI base. You can't exit and reload a save, because that's not a thing that's possible in this game for some reason, as far as I know. If it is, it isn't supported by how the menu options are currently configured.
So this is less "living with the consequences of your choices" and more "living with whatever the ST decides they want your character to do, with or without in-universe magic to explain you doing it." At that point I'd say "Alright, I'm done, since you're just writing a book by yourself. Let me know when you actually want to run or play in a game."
Yeah, you want to know how long the Brujah one is? I'm not sure if they differ at all, as I've only done Brujah, which is why I'm calling it that, but do you want to know how many clicks you have to make before you're even presented with a dialogue choice? Check this post in about ten minutes. I'm about to tell you.
If anyone would like to doublecheck my numbers, just start a new Brujah character.
EDIT: And to be clear, the issue here is not reading all that text, as I bought this game with the intent of reading a great deal. I LIKE text-heavy games. Shadowrun: Returns > Dragonfall > Hongkong? Yes PLEASE! Disco Elysium? I'll be buying that soon. But what they do, or at the very least what Shadowrun and also good games in the VN genre do, is they break up all that text with choices, with player interaction, so it keeps the player engaged. That's not happening here in the intro.
Oh, and there's no "skip all previously seen text to the next instance of unseen text or a branching dialogue option" feature, so even if you cut my time in half, you're going to be spending about 4 minutes in the Brujah intro just mindlessly clicking waiting to get to play the game, assuming you've already read that the first time around.
The game also tries obnoxiously to make you feel bad for acting like a proper vampire, by telling the player how their character thinks and feels about the situation.
The circumstances behind your decisions don't matter, nor do your role playing motivations for making them. The writers of this game clearly wanted you to pick certain options during the course of the game, and if you try to deviate from that, the game flat out criticizes and shames you for doing so.
Even worse, it makes your own character be the one to do the shaming.
Let me get something straight with you writers, I got into Vampire the Masquerade, so that I could play a VAMPIRE. I don't give a ♥♥♥♥ if humans are hurt or killed as a result of my actions. Vampires are inherently selfish creatures who only care about their own personal gratification, and that is exactly how I intend to play them.
If you want to offer your progressive ideals as an OPTIONAL character path, that's fine. But do not try to beat me over the head with it, while claiming this game offers players "choices" throughout the story. It is dishonest, and it makes you look more like you're trying to push some kind of agenda, rather than focusing on providing us with good quality content.
