Well if there was one twist that you didn't see coming...maybe there is another?

Or you know what. Don't bother. In my experience any one who asks this question, it's not worth their time.

It has an overwhelming approval rating on steam for a reason, but you can't please everybody.

yes

Was having similar thoughts. Loved the atmosphere and design in Act 1, was really disappointed when it changed to pixel art in Act 2.

Reading through the discussions on steam it seems to change in design at Act 3 again and also you can enable a "Official" Mod which makes Act 1 repeatable.

Also, side note there was no pictures showing the pixel art design on the store page for the game. I dislike the pixel art design in any games so would have avoided it, just my taste in art, not the end of the world like some people seem to think it is in the steam discussions.

its visible in the video on the store page. not for very long, but its not exactly hidden.

when you have to go through a short part of the game that doesn't fit your exact preference for graphical settings :steamsad::steamsad::steamsad:

Also, people need to not be so defensive when it comes to their "beloved" games, it's pathetic and childish. Just because you love a game doesn't mean you shouldn't criticise it or insult others who do criticise it.
Likewise, insulting other players or the devs because you don't like some part of a game is just as pathetic, and criticizing some aspect of a game doesn't mean you should just ♥♥♥♥ on it extensively.
Not targeting you specifically, just something to also keep in mind.

act 2 IS inscryption, as it should be (lorewise)... act 1 and act 3 are... a different thing, can't say more without heavy spoilers.

act 2 is also pretty short (but full of secrets, look for them everywhere, it's worth) so it's not like you have to endure it to game end.

you also get to see 2 deck card mechanics, beside blood and bones, that are not present in the cabin.

Yes, you're right my bad it shows up for about 2 seconds in the video. One picture showing the pixel art would have been more likely to be seen. I tend to skip through videos so missed that part.

Showing it substantially would have completely undermined the story however.

I can understand having preferences for style, but its still a card game, and still follows most of the same rules.

What makes this game special is that it doesn't stick to one thing for an egregious amount of time, similar to the other games from this developer.

If you really only like chapter 1, then you can continue playing chapter 1, either by restarting or using kaycee's mod.

yes, it's absolutely worth it and it's vital to the story. if you really hate it that much, after you win the game an official mod is available where you can play act 1 endlessly

Yes its worth it. Tip: Use the auto generate on the deck building if you get overwhelmed with the amount of possibilities. Keep using it each time you get new packs. Helped me get past the tougher battles and forces you to learn more about the cards as well.

I wasn't a huge fan of the change when I beat Act 1. I just wanted to go back to Leshy's cabin, and wanted a game that was entirely focused around that. But after completing act 2 and 3, I really ended up liking the whole game, and the story it had. I think it's probably the best I've seen in that particular story/genre. I'd recommend keep playing, personally.

Act 2 is the lynchpin of the whole game. Act 1 is the poster-child, the thing everyone shows up for; but Act 2 is where the real "meat" of the game is -- it's not the most exciting part but it will show you the real depth of the game. Leshy's cabin is, by contrast, simplistic and not very deep -- and given how it feels like it could provide endless entertainment when you first get there, it's really more of a comment on the dev's skills in creating an enticing world and a "easy to learn, hard to master" feeling (although in reality, it's also easy to master the first act -- the game is heavily rigged in your favour, you just have to take advantage. Kaycee's Mod is actually hard to master; but so is Act 2.)

Act 1 challenges your ability to spot which of the options -- most of which are handed to you on a silver platter -- is gonna be the most powerful. Act 2 challenges your ability to go looking for powerful combos yourself; yes it builds on what you know from Act 1 and you could, with enough effort, simply recreate a powerful Act 1 beast deck and win with that. However, there is so much more on offer -- not just 4 entire decks/strategies, but the synergies between them. You'll notice that you no longer get items in Act 2... you don't need them anymore. The items are a "get out of jail, free" card for if you fail to account for RNG in Act 1 (in Kaycee's Mod it's a bit different; the RNG is gonna screw you in KM and the items are there so that you have a way to fight back); in Act 2 you have all the tools you need just in the cards available, and frankly you can do even more broken nonsense using some of those combos.

Beyond Act 2, you'll actually go back to more "on rails"/narratively driven gameplay that is more like puzzles with pre-defined solutions. It's not totally locked in, you still have freedom for a few different ways to approach each puzzle; but the puzzles themselves are narrower and built off of new mechanics being added with each round or two. Act 2 just gives you an open world and says "ok, figure things out as you find them, good luck!", and doesn't put its finger on the scales anywhere near as much as any other parts of the game.

If you liked Act 1, you'll probably like Act 2. I'd give it a chance and if you don't end up liking it then you can skip to Kaycee's Mod, which is an expanded version of Act 1, with a code.
