Is Johnny alive or dead?
Is he a living Soul or is he a soulless digital AI engram memory data chip...and more importantly...is there a difference? Okay I get it....everything I am in real life is in my skull..my brain...which is being carried around on a skeletal muscular frame. The idea that my entire brain could be downloaded onto a microchip and installed onto a Robot...is frightening and same time unbelievable. People say it will be possible in the future

Isn't our brain more than just neurons and data and chemical reactions? What about Love and feelings? Can Love be downloaded onto a microchip??? Some say Love and feelings are chemical reactions that can be replicated

This game has made me think about who I am and what exactly is going on in my brain. I'm self aware....therefore... I am.....but I could say same thing if my brain was on a Robot lol. Anyone else confused? Is it even really possible to download our conscience???

Good old question : What makes you a human

Define "soul".

Dead, as the one called johnny was a human, this is simply an artificial intelligence, with his memories.

Even if you teleport, atom for atom, you are no longer "You".
As you would be broken down, and reassembled... this process would kill "You" and simply make a copy...

Even if that AI, was sentient, its not johnny.

I think before you even define a soul you need to consider if the afterlife is even a thing to you.

the monk dude said it best. If the entity feels torment then it is alive.

You think through connections between your brain cells. If that is copied, as in Johnnys case, it would be just that: a copy. The original you would still be in the brain. From my point of view, the original Johnny Silverhand is dead.

Given the fact that those connections between the cells ares somewhat copied on a chip, I would say there is another Person on the chip, who thinks as Johnny did think, still it isn't the original Johnny.

To your question: If your brain was on a robot, it would still be you. Basicly a brainstransplant. If you brain would be copied on a robot, that would be a copy of you in a robotic body.

To really "transfer" your self, your brain would have need to connect to a chip (or whatever) which is accepted from your brain as sort of "blob" of brain cells. You would have to permanently think an basicly walk through your memory as your brain cells slowly been killed. In order to stay functional, your brain would start to use the artifical blob and thus transfer functions and memory to the blob until your real brain is completely dead and your self would work on the chip.
Given that your character is made of the summ of all your memories and the brain has different parts for different functions, this would be hell of a long process, every bit (literally the informatics "bit") of failure would change you, albeit without you noticing. Or it fails bigger and you are... well, best case something like a cyberpsycho, wort case dead. Both cases not so different I think.

He is a copy of a former human being.

define being self aware....define the conscience.... can that be downloaded? Can you digitize the mind?

I think the talk about "a machine can't have a soul" is kind of a dead end. If a soul isn't quantifiable or provable, you can't really argue that a machine can't have one.

Johnny is alive.
V is dead.

Anything can have a "Soul" but one glass cup, cannot become another cup, till one is melted down...
