When a game looks so good it becomes a walking simulator
Does anyone else just walk around sometimes and just admire what a beautiful world the devs have created in night city and especially dog town? Sometimes I just ignore missions and go for a walk and just take it all in.

Probably the best use of lighting I've ever seen in a video game tbh

It's a very immersive and beautiful game world. I often walk around just to soak up the atmosphere, I stop to listen to conversations between NPCs, and sometimes drive around and stop to admire the views, and take a longer route to finish listening to Lizzy Wizzy on the radio :VBCOOL: I never fast travel.

Although I like some walking simulators, this game is far from that, though, and many people have an automatic aversion to that term :lunar2019grinningpig: Walking sims are often set in lifeless places where you just find clues and objects and such, while this world is living and hectic.

Been thinking of using some mods I've seen mentioned, that make the world even more dynamic, with more random gunfights and NPCs getting more involved and hostile and such, but for now I enjoy the world as it is :104:

Yeah, I rarely do fast travel, I mostly walk or ride a bike so I can check out places that I'd otherwise miss. I dig the art style and architectural design of the world in this game.

Exactly me :) Especially because it reminds me of Quarantine (1994) where I always wanted to get out from the vehicle and explore the city :)

Same. I will blaze 3-4km from one side of the city to the other on a bike, before I tap Fast Travel, just because it's so much to take in and so damn good lookin.

Especially with mods, can turn the whole thing into 1980's Blade Runner

Definitely.
It's also really amazing how different things can look depending on the time of day or during thick and windy dust storms. Love it when it rains too.

There's a new'ish mod called "Auto Drive" which allows you to just sit in the vehicle first person and soak it all in, so to speak. Pretty fun, especially if you're in a convertible.

Do a no-car playthrough! Except for obvious too far away locations of course or scripted ones.

You will see and find lots of unknown things, situations, loot and content material. Or just beauty.

There are a lot of Youtube walking videos in Night City, sometimes in photorealistic quality, some over an hour long. If you don't have the rig to play on that quality level, you can at least watch.

I recommend this one:

On the modded game yes, but we're talking a bit more than walking around that I do in this game. To each their own of course, but I need more than visuals:

I play arcade games, do deliveries, chill at the apartment, visit the clubs, visit Lizzies to do a few brain dances, drive around, steal cars and sell them, tune my ride, sit down in random locations, drink and eat at the bars with animations, going to re-find the mod to activate the shooting range, pet the cat that's in front of Victor's, listen to the guitar player play.

And that's all in the starter area, without even seeing Dex yet.

edit:
Got the gun range working again with the Wilson mod, so pretty much adding visiting the shooting range to my list of random activities that I do in this game .

It certainly is a very beautiful and immersive world for a game, on my third playthrough and the game still captures me as much as a new character build does. I used to do fast travel all the time but now I mostly drive around every where, and in first-person to enhance the experience.

wandering around is a big part of this game.

I never fast travel in any game. You often miss things that happen or things to find if you do that.
Yes. I virtually never fast travel. And with the inclusion of the train, I use that as much as I can too. The only thing the game still lacks that I wish it had that was mentioned prior to release is self-driving taxis. Which I suppose technically exists in a single quest lol. But that's not what I mean. I would love to just take rides passively and stare out the windows at this world.

Omg. That might just be the one mod other than trash service I use. Thanks, Choomba.
