I can only guess but maybe you didn't install the mods correctly?
I'd suggest using a mod manager to make sure mods get installed correctly. There are (probably) several of them but I've become quite a fan of Vortex:
https://www.nexusmods.com/about/vortex/
For example, it can be used individually to make your own mods, but is most useful in combination with an actual mod editor. Same applies to adding mods: it can be used to "compile" mods and prepare them for use with CP2k77; but it'll be a lot easier if you have a mod manager handy to handle this for you.
I think this is also where you may have gone wrong: depending on the mods you don't just dump 'm into the mods folder and hope for things to work. Sometimes you'll have to use the redmod commandline to init things. I can't get more specific than this because the only reason I know this is because I've seen it happen (and read about it) through Vortex ;)
So my suggestion would indeed be to grab Vortex. Don't worry: it's not that hard. Once you set up CP2k77 to be managed with Vortex then all you basically have to do is drop in the mod(s) you want to use. Doesn't even have to be from Nexus.
Hope this can help!
First: I don't think that's your call anymore but more importantly: this can also help other new players, so why deprive them of this info? All good!
Happy to hear that you got it solved!
But the way to do it is to go to Nexus (or some other place) and on Nexus select to download the mods manually. Then open the zip file and copy the folders into your Cyberpunk main folder. If the mod requires something else to be installed first Nexus will tell you when you download the file so just install that first. It's really just that simple; copy the mods folders into your main folder and done.
There have only been 2 or 3 mods that (and 1 in particular I remember) that required me to do something beyond just dumping the files into the right folder.
I didn't install any mods until Redmod came out and I finished my first play through for fear that the web of inter-dependencies would crash the whole thing, but I've been presently surprised at how stable it actually is. I think I have about 30 mods installed now.
