Should I start Phantom Liberty on first occasion?
Howdy,

As the title suggests, should I play Phantom Liberty when it first become available in act 2? Should I wait until later in the main story so PL makes a bit more sense?

I would like to unlock some of the relic tree so it stays relevant as opposed to getting it super late in the game, but I fear I can either lock myself out of some main story ending achievements or simply ruin the experience if it is "chronologically" supposed to be placed towards the end of act 2 or act 3.

Cheers!

You can do it whenever you want, I usually save it for after Act 2 is basically done and all that's left is to (not) meet Hanako at Embers

Hmm... start maybe, but perhabs not finish.

Gaining access to Dogtown is a boon, because there are vendors there that sell items you can only get there, you unlock the vehical theft missions, you can do the air-drops, which are a rich source of money and or crafting materials. So yeah, it makes sense to unlock that area sooner rather than later.

Buuuuut... if you play through the DLC early, you'll miss out on a bunch of tie-ins with the rest of the game, even miss out on a special item or two.

So i can recommend getting it started, and then take a break from PL's main story untill later.

I would try to establish at least a couple of the 'relationship' quests before heading to Dogtown, and finish all of them before heading to any ending. I'd also want to be levelled up to 30 or 40 at least before tackling the initial PL quest, because it takes no prisoners and will kick your butt if you aren't ready for it.

Start Phantom Liberty right before you meet Hanako at Embers

I think so, yeah.

Make sure to do the Violence side quest first as it leads to getting the coolest hat in the game in a certain DLC mission.

Thanks guys! If I sum up all your answers, I might lock myself out of a couple items if I push too much in PL, but some content could be safe (namely air drop, car theft, etc). And if I want to play it super safe, wait until Hanako at Embers pop up in the main story mission to tackle PL.

Cheers mates!

You supposed to start it at the end of Pacifica .

Yup, sounds about right.

If you want a safe pause point, you can basically just do the first two missions of PL.

First mission you rescue the Prez, second mission you meet Reed, and he gets her out of Dogtown, and tells you to wait a few days to hear back from him.

It's a natual break in the story, so you can easilly leave it on hold after that. When you do hear back from Reed, just don't go to the meeting point he indicates untill you are ready to continue the PL story. Simple.

You can then safely explore Dogtown, use the vendors there, do airdrops, steal cars, you can even do the Gigs Mr. Hands gives you (they won't advance the main PL story, they are sepperate).

That part is pretty helpful, pretty much satisfies what I'm looking for (getting the relic tree and some nice PL perks, like free cars and extra weapons) without committing to its story.

Cheers!

You do have to at least commit until you have to find Solomon Reed, once you're tasked with saving Myers if you wait too long, she'll die and Songbird will be understandably angry

You'll fail the entire DLC and lose access to the rest of its main quest if you wait too long, once you start it you have to ensure that Myers is safe

True, if you abandon the questline durring the first mission, it does eventually fail. Which is why i recommend doing the first two missions.

Oh I see there is a potential catch here, so if I do start it, do the first 2 missions. Thanks for the heads-up!
Sorry for necroing my own thread, but I've progress the game quite a bit since then following the advice of "rescuing" Myers up to the safehouse, then abandoned PL's storyline altogether and cleared all other content (Panam, Myers, Judy, all NCPD/Cyberpsycho, relic hunt, airdrops, etc.). I'm currently at the end of act 2 in the Takumera's questline.

The main advice I'm seeking is if PL alters the main storyline ending in any way? I'm planning to get every achievements in a single playthrough, mainly want to avoid screwing myself over if I tackle the entirety of PL's once I get to the point in act 3 where I have to "Meet Hanako's at embers". This would be the moment where I would do the DLC.

So far, despite looking ahead for achievement, I managed to remain spoiler free, but I know there are 4 PL's ending requiring wise hard saves to get them all while the main storyline sets you back before that final mission allowing you to experiment them all. I'm unsure if they interact with one another though.

Cheers!

No, they're completely separate. Once you finish the DLC and get either the King of Pentacles ending (betray Songbird during Firestarter and then spare her life during Somewhat Damaged) or King of Swords ending (betray Reed during Firestarter and then hand Songbird over to him during Killing Moon) then you'll get a call from Reed once you have Noctune OP55N1 (Meet Hanako at Embers).

If you kill Reed during Killing Moon, or grant Songbird's request during Somewhat Damaged, then you will be barred from getting The Tower ending, as Myers will not help you unless you're in good standing with her, which means that Songbird has to be alive and in her hands.

There are points where you can manually save (do not quicksave if you want to go back, quicksaves overwrite each other) during FIrestarter, Somewhat Damaged, and Killing Moon in case you want to go back and change something or just get the achievements.
