Should I get "Phantom Liberty" after playing almost 100% of the base game, or should I buy a completely new game?
I’ve completed almost 100% of the base game of Cyberpunk 2077 and thoroughly enjoyed it. I’m considering buying the "Phantom Liberty" expansion since I want more of Night City and plan to start a new playthrough with a different build and ending. However, I’m also concerned about the price tag of the expansion. I feel that for the same price, I could get a new game that might offer a more varied experience than playing Cyberpunk all over again, even with the added content.

I bought it on sale, for mod use purposes. Up to you really, but imo, no if you've already gotten the ending that you wanted. The Phantom Liberty endings aren't exactly great, nor worth pursuing imo.

It really depends on what game you played. If you're already familiar with 2.0 then you'll fit right in and can just pick up where you left of. Otherwise... it will work but it's my experience that you're much better off going from scratch again.

See... 2.0 introduces new powerups, new leveling mechanics wrt your chrome and also new perks. If you start an old game all your perks and points get reset so that you can apply 'm again, but without knowing what these really do.... that can easily lead up to a less satisfying experience. Especially if you were used to old behavior which has now changed.

Follow your own instincts. Games are a form of art and beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

I absolutely loved Phantom Liberty and bought that sucker at full price with no regrets.
But not everyone here shares my level of affinity for the game.
I sunk my teeth deeply into it, so I felt I got way more than my money's worth.

Since you're unsure of yourself, maybe play it safe and just wait for the next sale.
Use your money to buy a new game if you see one you want to play right now. You can always come back to Phantom Liberty later, choom. ;)
Edit: Phantom Liberty is on sale right now.

Why would you buy a complete new game for the DLC?
You can usee your current save, but also just start a new game?
No need to rebuy it.

I got my money's worth at full price. The current sale price seems very reasonable to me. Phantom Liberty is really where CDPR's devs got to show everything they'd learned from making the base game, much of it unable to be retrofitted back. Not going to claim it's a totally unique experience but Dog Town does stand out and I think they catch the spy thriller vibe and storyline really well to compare/contrast with how the main storyline plays out.

But find the fun for you OP, especially if the price is one where it's a tough decision for you (think most of us have been in that situation at one point or another). There are some great games for £20 or less - Signalis is £16 full price, for instance.

I bought it at full price and have enjoyed it very much. The storyline and various quests around dogtown really add a lot to the game.

Do you feel lucky punk?

Edit,

Phantom Liberty is a good DLC,

I'm starting to question if the OP even likes Cyberpunk.

The problem with the dlc, while it's really good imho, is that it just.... Doesn't matter? For whatever reason?

Everything that happens in the dlc basically unhappens once you finish it, which makes the entire point kinda worthless.

Fun? Yes
Replayable like base game? No. It's a 1 and done situation.

This is essentially where I stand on the DLC.

Not a bad purchase, but also not something that I'd say is a need, whereas as the base game 100% already feels complete to me without adding in the DLC. If anything, DLC filling the world of the base game would've been better, but that's just my opinion on it.

For me though, some current and future mods are going to require the DLC, so it was a definite need for me to purchase Phantom Liberty.

it is expensive, but its a full blown dlc meaning it almost is a new game. Theres so much and this is one of the greatest pieces of gaming art ever maDE

Yeah it was really weird... I can't say anything because it's insanely easy to spoil but I just didn't understand why....literally none of your choices make any difference on the end game, and not only that, no matter what you pick the difference at the end is nothing. You still respawn right before hanako.

And the relic upgrades aren't even worth it....

It was super fun I won't lie. I enjoyed it, but I was really disappointed by how it ended and how regardless if I did it or not it made zero difference at all in the entire game.

If you like the base game that much then the DLC should definitely be worth it. Take it from me, a guy who burned out of three different playthroughs without finishing the game. I finished the DLC and had no complaints other than Idris being a full time sad boi.

It is robust with some good story-telling, good combat encounters, new activities, new clothes etc. It is true that the map makes it look small but that does not do justice to how packed it is relative to the base game. The graphics too. Once you have reached the main area it is more clear than ever why CDPR made the decision to bump up the system requirements and drop last gen console support.
