Riders on the storm, fend of attackers is impossible
I'm currently on this quest just after rescuing Saul and we are under attack so this is another combat driving. My only available weapon is a garbage pistol that does very little damage to the cars. My character is not a pistol user, usually katana, shotgun and light machine gun and I'm on the highest difficulty. Every single combat driving event where you can only use pistols that does almost no damage are already bad enough but riders on the storm really takes the cake.

We are in a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ van so why the hell does the game not letting me use my light machine gun. I know that going for a netrunner build would make things easy but in my current playthrough, I'm playing as a melee or close range fighter.

That's tough.

Why would you even bother trying to damage the cars? Aim for the driver(s)! Also take careful and good aim. Once the driver is out, that's it.

An alternative solution: Reload a save from before you enter the compound, and stealth the mission.

You won't get pursued if you pull it off undetected.

First time i did this quest was on a Katana build. As you can imagine, all my points (pre 2.0) were put on maxing the katanas, and it's scripted you blow up if you do not kill all the cars in time, it was literally impossible.

Long story short, i used respector to respec on a crit gunslinger build and it was super easy.
While respector is not available anymore, on Nexusmods you can find "reset attributes always available" mod that will do more or less the same. Just respec to a crit revolver and you'll get the quest done easy.

Do not hit the drivers, for some reason the cars still follow you even if you kill the driver and you still blow up. The way to do it is hit the cars hard, and make them explode.

I've done this mission twice, last time a few days ago. Both times I incapacitated all of the people in the camp stealthily, using quickhacks and thrown knife, so there were no one left to chase me.

I didn't even know there was a car chase involved in this mission until I saw this thread, so I had to look it up. It says in the walkthrough that there is a chase, but I didn't have that.

I noticed that Saul and Panam comment on that everyone is dead when I rescue him, and Saul is impressed, so that might be a clue if you're unsure if everyone is dead.

So in short; if you kill or incapacitate all the guys in the camp, you won't get chased. And you get a lot of loot :cybereye:

Edit: I checked another walkthrough now, and it seems stealth is needed to avoid the chase, not just killing everyone. Raising the alarm at some point will trigger reinforcements:

Also, expect the chase if you have raised the alarm. Enemy cars may appear while fleeing the camp. Use any of your weapons and shoot vehicles to destroy them. Fortunately, you don't have to get rid of all the hostile machines.

idk... you can always respec your build to Cool and Body for faster pistol reloads and for quicker cooldowns on healing. (it's a pain to respec, but you're not really, softlocked) Either that or just keep replaying and hope RNG favors you.

Also...I'm pretty sure this game has no achivements for difficulty settings or any sort of incentive. And if I'm remembering right... there is no punishment for switching to easy other than having to reboot the game.

On my first and second playthrough, I'm playing mostly stealth so yea this quest is not an issue at that time. Currently this is my third playthrough where I decided to play the game without ever going stealth. The only thing I can do now is to tone down the difficulty just for this stupid vehicle combat alone. Either that or I should just reload the previous auto saves and redo the whole thing in stealth, not something I want but I guess there is no other options.

Doesnt matter either way cause my pistol doesnt even do much damage to the drivers. I had to land about 18-30 shots just to take them out.
