You won't get pursued if you pull it off undetected.
Long story short, i used respector to respec on a crit gunslinger build and it was super easy.
While respector is not available anymore, on Nexusmods you can find "reset attributes always available" mod that will do more or less the same. Just respec to a crit revolver and you'll get the quest done easy.
Do not hit the drivers, for some reason the cars still follow you even if you kill the driver and you still blow up. The way to do it is hit the cars hard, and make them explode.
I didn't even know there was a car chase involved in this mission until I saw this thread, so I had to look it up. It says in the walkthrough that there is a chase, but I didn't have that.
I noticed that Saul and Panam comment on that everyone is dead when I rescue him, and Saul is impressed, so that might be a clue if you're unsure if everyone is dead.
So in short; if you kill or incapacitate all the guys in the camp, you won't get chased. And you get a lot of loot
Edit: I checked another walkthrough now, and it seems stealth is needed to avoid the chase, not just killing everyone. Raising the alarm at some point will trigger reinforcements:

Also...I'm pretty sure this game has no achivements for difficulty settings or any sort of incentive. And if I'm remembering right... there is no punishment for switching to easy other than having to reboot the game.
On my first and second playthrough, I'm playing mostly stealth so yea this quest is not an issue at that time. Currently this is my third playthrough where I decided to play the game without ever going stealth. The only thing I can do now is to tone down the difficulty just for this stupid vehicle combat alone. Either that or I should just reload the previous auto saves and redo the whole thing in stealth, not something I want but I guess there is no other options.
Doesnt matter either way cause my pistol doesnt even do much damage to the drivers. I had to land about 18-30 shots just to take them out.
