Our memories are just fine, is yours? Do you actually remember what a wasteland 2020 was for releases? Let alone good ones..
And of course we don't all enjoy the same genres of game, so for me personally there were only two games that year i even bothered purchasing: Cyberpunk 2077 and MS Flightsim 2020 (and just to hammer home the absolute state that games were releasing in at the time, Cyberpunk 2077 was the less buggy of the two, not even kidding).
So to me, yeah, Cyberpunk was the GOTY of 2020, it was the game i got the most enjoyment out of by far.
Of course if you ask the game journo's, the GOTY of 2020 was TLOU2, the female Golfer sim. I'll quite happily take Cyberpunk over that, thank you very much.
You cant give a game that was kicked off the Playstation store and in the middle of a lawsuit Game fo the Year. To me Ghost of Tsushima or Doom Eternal were easily better....by a mile.
Lets all come back to reality now.
the video game awards are a joke i will decide what game i think deserves GOTY
On top of which, come 2.0 time, Cyberpunk will increase the gap even more. Not that it's a contest, mind you. As long as the games are entertaining to the players who bought them, the rest doesn't truly matter.
A) Yes i can, because i am a proud member of the glorious PC gaming master race, and i need not care what the Playstation peons might think of their lot (also, if you ask me Playstation did this for purely socio-political reasons, as they have let games in a much worse state than this one stay up on their store, and since i'm sure you'll demand an exemplar, let me preempt you: Fallout 76, just to name one).
B) I don't like either of the two games you just listed, so why would they be my personal GOTY pick for 2020?
In regards to point B, we all have our own tastes and prefrences, there is no such thing as a universally loved game. You can make the best RTS game that ever existed, but that still won't sway people who just don't enjoy playing RTS games. Get it?
I can concede that Ghost of Tsushima and Doom: Eternal were well made games, but there is a very good reason why neither of them exist in my Steam library. I don't care, i don't want to play them, they are not for me.
Cyberpunk 2077, despite it's various flaws and shortcommings, is for me, it's the kind of game that i do enjoy, so it wins by default despite it's rough launch.
Its 2023... nobody uses the master race meme anymore. PC Gamers are first people to start crying and review boming when we get a bad port. *cough Last of Us
I dont know if its gaslighting or people have short memories vut the game was busted on PC too at launch. There's people on this very day still complaining in this message board about bugs. Theres no conspiracy, The game was unplaybale on Playstation and Sony didnt want ti get sued or mass refunds. It tool 3 years to get the game to this current state.
Its fine that you like the game but when people start changing the past thats were I have to say my piece. If people think that Gollum was the best game ever made I can stop them from thinking.....but I am allowed to also give an opinion. To me Cyberpunk didnt deserve anything 2020 accept a kick in the rear.
PS. I would think Ghost of Tsushima isnt in your Steam library since its still a Playstation exclusive. Lol
You can give any game any award because video game awards are inherently arbitrary and meaningless. That's why Ubisoft can give Far Cry 6 a "Game of the Year" edition despite it having won zero GOTY awards whatsoever.
Elden Ring won GOTY last year but that changes precisely nothing. Nothing at all in the slightest. I enjoyed Elden Ring before it won GOTY just as equally as I enjoyed Elden Ring after it won GOTY. Same with GOW Ragnarok; frankly I don't give two sheets that it didn't win GOTY. I enjoyed it the same win or lose.
It's not like winning some pompous award magically makes the quality of a game better. It's still the same game lol.
