Anyone else think they went a little overboard?

I totally understand that CDPR has a reputation for pushing the boundaries of whats acceptable in a game, but this isn't even that. Its all over the place. It's Like yeah in the Witcher 3 you could have sex with multiple characters throughout the story, and it made sense, and the writing and the scenes were relevant to the story and characters.

I also understand this game is an "ADULT" game. But I am going to go out on a limb here and say that most of the jokes/humor, adds, marketing and messaging in the game is so over the top it's not even in the realm of being funny. It's like they looked at Saints Row, and GTA and decided, "We can go way further than that".

I totally get that in this future world of Cyberpunk 2077 things might be a little more progressive than they are now. But most of this crap is so far gone it's like they hired middle school kids and porn film script writers to think up all the advertisements for pure shock factor and the LULZ.

I have put together a small list of things I found in the game, that made me question the thought processes of the designers and what they were trying to achieve here. Because honestly I have been a big fan of Cyberpunk, and the genre/culture itself in films and games since it was created and I have never seen any of these things represented like this previously in the game nor related films. It's almost like they said LETS MAKE GTA+SAINTS ROW+XXX with Cybernetic Implants, and gross everyone out while we do it.

-Want a girls a.$$ in a thong, with a toothless Sketchy dude smiling,on every other billboard, bus stop, and building. Check
-Want pointless advertisements, with a TV Channel literally called "Just Ads". Check
-Want completely over the top commercials describing Organic Foods, while a man pretends to have a Orgasm. We got that too.
- Want an extremely Obese Man sitting naked on a toilet with a Beer Bottle covering his genitals while two Cybernetic women lick, the bottle. Yes that's in there as well.
-Robotic looking women Holding glasses of Wine or something preparing to Kiss, on every other billboard, and traffic tunnel.
- A completely Robotic man, promoting his new "STUD" genital enhancement, with Robotic and human hands rubbing his body. With the Slogan, "ALL NIGHT.EVERY NIGHT" or Never go soft again. We gotcha covered.
-A DEMON having intercourse with a Nude Catholic Nun, Doggy Style on an Art Poster. Yep they went their too.
-A Gang called the 666th Street gang. But we will make all the gang members former Military Veterans. (subliminal message much)
-Old Grandpa looking men Strip tease dancing behind glass enclosures.
-A Dildo SHOP, with DILDO's that have metal spikes, and some are as big as a 2 Liter Bottle of Soda. Or Shaped like an entire Arm with a clenched fist.
-A TV commercial that has a Flying Rabbit that gets it's head chopped off, then flies past a Man spitting a rainbow out of his mouth and then his face falls apart into gory pieces, and then the screen reads" JUST ADS".. Like WTF does that even mean?
-A song on the radio that plays constantly with the lyrics "I fk you, I fk, you I fk you, I what" then something about shooting holes in the Sun. It has to be the most annoying song in a game I have ever heard. So annoying and played so much that I had to turn all music off in the game, so I never hear it while playing.
-Synthetic Meat Snacks shaped like Genitals.

It all seems really immature, like middle school humor. "hehe Look!! Titties and Dildos and Robotic Genitals that never go soft" not to be outdone by their subliminal (but clearly not) everyone hates police message.

Unfortunately, they focused so much on trying to copy and then surpass the extremeness of their open world competitors, that they forgot to make a solid game first. Shame their priorities weren't more aligned to proper game testing, functionality and features.

The rest has already been said by the others. Night City is meant to be pretty much the worst you can imagine, with the worst people you ccan imagine. It's part of the lore.

The way sex is displayed in this game is, how it was tought in the Cyberpunk universe.

This game is not only a computer game - it has it roots also in a offline "world", like Neverwinter Nights as example - This game was build on top of the rules and informations about Dungeons&Dragons.

And Cyberpunk 2077 was build with the world of... you surley guess it by now... Cyberpunk in mind.

I personally love it.

After all the games that have trie to teach us gamers an agenda and shown us a boring world, I love it to see one time the opposit.

Edit: Also, if I am honest, you sound more for me like one of those american hillbillys, that are against progress and life everyday their church live, without a connection to civilisation (forget the name of that group but the description should be enough I guess).*

Sex is part of all of our lifes. I am happy that finally one companie respect this, in a acceptable enviroment (not like all the sex games that go to far from a serious standpoint out - even that is of course not the reason why they exist, I know).

I get your point, but I see it from another POV.

You are in a world dominated by rich persons and corpos, who need to keep their domination over the mass population by using common ways : bread, games, sex, overpricing & violent crowd control. A world that « reconstruct » from a war. A poluted world but which use 90% green energy.

If you pay attention, « sexual oriented » ads or else are less present or very more discret in the Downtown or rich areas (marina, hills with villas...). Some ads are more sensual or implicit (that woman with red lips and hand on her breast, the two classy girls implementing inderectly lesbian love on a fashion pannel).

As IRL, theres separation between what is showed to you regarding your status in society.
It’s well known in marketing that you will always be more subtil with mid high to high classes than with « regular people » who deserve vulgar displays or simple things.

Make the parallel with RL again : look the TV shows that are most popular for low class or mass crowd, the trending things on YouTube. For most, it’s brainwashed, explicitely sex oriented or specific community oriented, not to hurt people feelings after a long day at work, so they are fed with what they want before sleeping and starting another day.

Now back to Cyberpunk : it’s our world in 57 years, with all these components overamplificated. (Somehow like in the movie « Idiocracy »)
Of course if actual porn clients can have realistic Brain Dances in the future, they will use them.
Of course if lonely people and poor people can have the « woman/man doll » of their dreams for one night, they would use it. Of course non straight people or uncommon fantasies oriented persons would become clients of these game aspects.
Of course the under average american would laugh at ads like the one in game while driking his beer in the badlands as he does nowadays.
Of course rich people would have separate city blocks with more security (like in South Africa) and different ads and programs, culture.
Wonder why an old temple with cultural content is located in rich area of the game ? Wonder why theres a grandpiano in Embers hotel ? Because culture is always preserved by conservative people who usually tend to be upper class. Mass population is fed with pop culture like the ads and repetitive music that is ingame in poor areas. (Except maybe for some rock/punk music which tries to open the mass eyes, as Samurai ;) )

Now I take the Misty’s pills and push Johnny’s away of my head... back to my corpo mentality :)

Well, the basics of life are:
Consumption / reproduction / repeat, and the more humans in the game, the more this intensifies. CP2077 is just a reflection of the sh*t-show we are all a part of.

I think the ads in a way are meant to disturb on some level. Just to reinforce how jacked up NC is. For some, that's the sex content. Me personally? With all the sex ads, I chuckled the first time and moved on. The ads that stuck with me were the "Hate your meat?" TV spot and the "New job? Time for an upgrade!" billboard. Because rampant causal transhumanism is honestly kinda creepy on some level to me.

Once you picture Night City as the worst city in the US and stop pretending it's meant to represent a whole world/lore you'll become at peace with it and its excesses.

Isn't Streetkid V's whole thing that he/she went out to Atlanta and found out that it was actually worse than Night City? Either that or exactly the same?

She does mention it but not specifically how it's worse. Eventually you get the option to say "It's hard to leave Night City" which could also mean that V just became attached to NC since that's where he/she grew up and struggles to adapt to anywhere else.

Is the game offensive for its aggressive use of satire? No

Is the culture in the game basically true to the game's source material? Yes

Is this clever? No, but it's not dumb either, it's neutral. It's just the world in which the story is set. Compare the culture in the novel "A Brave New World", which is clearly important literature, and you find find the same satire of sexuality and consumption.

I completely agree. It kills the immersion, the joke wears thin in the first 5 minutes and then gets to be annoying. The whole game is like watching someone trying WAY to hard to be cool and edgy. I played it for 6 or 7 hours and cut it off and uninstalled it.
