Food is a burden though. Its cool as a world building tool, but since they all do the same thing, its not really a deep system. Its extremely wide but exteremely shallow as a gameplay mechanic. Different foods having different buffs (aka some giving you +1 to different stats) would have greatly changed the food landscape imo. But as it is now, its sorely lacking and is really compounded with the bad shop and management UI in the game. So its just a chore instead of fun.
A lot of people don't use food/drinks and accumulate a ton of it - I wonder if that had something to do with save files going above 8 MB and corrupting the save? (And yes, I know it's been patched, but still curious about it.)
My first 10 hours or so, I ignored consumables, since they had 0 weight, and gathered hundreds and hundreds of food/drink items. I didn't keep track of my save file size though, so I have no clue on it's effect (or lack of). Now, I routinely clean them out - will keep maybe a dozen food items.
Oh sure - I stopped picking up food entirely on my second playthrough. It takes forever to turn it all into scrap.
