I'm a long way from being an expert on this genre, so take what I say with a grain of salt. I don't think laser weapons are a big thing in the cyberpunk genre. Maybe a couple of military weapons, but not stuff everyday people or criminals would have.

I can see the Corporations of Cyberpunk occasionally using laser weapons. =/

well i would hope for a least one or options, just to make me feel like im the future world
i mean if you can have robotic implants why not advanced laser guns, seems realistic in a Cyber tech based game to me.

yeah i was wondering this too, but the only laser weapons we've seen are ones in the exo suits. i wouldn't mind a death ray tbh
Unsure whether they will exist in the game. In the PnP they exist but are considered to be extremely rare. They require immense power to operate, so I'm unsure how that might get integrated into 2077's game systems. There's also stuff like microwave and electrical weapons in the PnP though that could play a role in the game potentially.

Aikido has a point. Energy beam guns exist but they are rare and not very practical because of the high energy requirements and the hassle to recharge them. The standard laser gun, for example, can barely make two shots at maximum power; afterwards, its energy cell gets depleted and needs to be recharged. At minimum power, it can perform up to ten shots, but its damage is similar to that of a 5 or 6 mm. one-shot polymer (cheap handguns).

In 2025 (2082 for the game :P ), energy beam guns are more extended, primarily in space ships, where they are connected to the vessel energy plant and can be fired without worrying about weapon running out of energy.

Will be happen if we have a few heat ray guns given current tech can see some rare things, not leasers in the normal sci-fi sense though since cyberpnk is near future

I mean they could make certain energy weapons from the PnP game into "Legendaries" so to speak, it would be a nice touch

Yes but as stated. they'd have to diverge significantly from the PnP to make them practical in-game to use. Otherwise they would be extremely cumbersome. The game technically serves as a quasi-sequel to Red, so they could always just justify it somehow via in-game fiction I suppose. I'm just saying, that would be required for it to work in a gameplay-friendly way.

Laser guns question...
Will laser guns be useable weapons in this game officially?

Maybe. I've seen mantis blades charged with some sort of laser/energy, though.

This world uses handheld EM railguns (tech rifles) though. I think it could just be ballistics, just for the sake of design choice for being gritty.

Thing about true laser weapons is as soon as you fire it reaches the target unlike blaster bolts flying by in star wars. I'm not interested in laser weapons but they might exist.
