Note: Make sure you only have 1 instance of mod manager installed, and make sure it is the latest release)

Step 3: Remove old mods in the mods directory
Your Mods directory should typically look like this (unless you installed to a non-default location):>

C:\Users\Username\AppData\Local\Larian Studios\Baldur's Gate 3\Mods

Step 4: Reinstall the mod manager fresh per the instructions.

Step 5: Make sure your game data path, and game executable path is set in the BG3 Mod Manager under settings> preferences

Your game Data path should be: (unless you installed to a non-default location)
C:/SteamLibrary/steamapps/common/Baldurs Gate 3/Data

Your game executable path should be: (unless you installed to a non-default location)
C:/SteamLibrary/steamapps/common/Baldurs Gate 3/bin/bg3.exe

Step 6: Download the latest versions of all your mods, making sure they all are compatible with the latest version of the game.

Step 7: Within the BG3MM select Import Mod, and select the mod you want to import from the file location where you saved your downloaded mods.

Step 8: Right click the mod in the inactive list, and activate it. so it goes into the active list.

Step 9: Activated mods are loaded, now edit Mod order accordingly based on highest priority (for you) and make sure to check your mods for notes from the creator on compatibility and required load order.

Step 10: Within BGMM3 go to file, and select Export order to game.

Step 11: Launch BG3 and play

The biggest problem currently is that BG3 is receiving so many changes constantly that playing with MODS at this point is basically pointless. Sometimes this happens within a day, some times it doesn't happen for several days, and sometimes it never happens at all.

Keep that in mind when modding your play through, the value of your time and the value of your SAVE file needs to be taken into consideration before applying mods, as they may not be available later if the game is updated.

Has anyone else this issue?

Official Support

https://larian.com/support/baldur-s-gate-3
================================================

Has anyone else this issue?

That, and countless variations of that, is probably the least useful and entertaining sentence you can find on this forums. Why would anyone ask that in the first place? Does it matter anything at all if you are the only one with issue XYZ or you one within a crowd?

Unless something is mentioned in the news - not Steam news - but Larian Studio's X - it does not matter at all. If you wait long enough you surely get someone to affirm you that you are not alone. And yet even without affirmation

If you have an issue with the game, you have an issue with the game. It does not matter who else. It will not change that you have an issue with the game until you resolve that issue.

Similar I do not get it why people would just reply with "same" without giving additional context or information which could be considered helpful at all. If anything, in the majority of cases where people claimed "same" it turned out not the be the same issue, but just something which looks the same.

It is not that hard to provide a DxDiag report, which answers instantly many questions which could come up during troubleshooting. If you know how you have it up in 30 seconds, shared via pastebin.com or your cloud service of choice.

There are plenty of helpful fellows on the forums who can help you even to check, if your issue with your savegame is a savegame issue or not. You could simply share the savegame and get quick and easy clarification if your savegame is bricked because it does not load for you, or your savegame is okay and it does load for someone else, which means it is not a savegame issue at all.

And for Ford's sake - mod users...

I love mods - generally speaking.
I am convinced that any kind of game which allows mods is a great game, as they allow for more than just adjustments and fixes by third party providers. Mods allow a community to grow, to challenge the developers with user created community content and in the process keeping the game alive for many more years to come - way beyond a game's "natural" lifecycle. Mods are "limitbreakers" which can enhance your personal experience with a game.

What I do not like is when mod users blame the game for issues created by their mods. It is like spitting toxic nonsense while at the meanwhile those users could spend that time consulting the mods authors for help and let them know properly about any issues.

I am especially... angry, about the fact that helpful guides like these get ignored ENTIRELY

GUIDE: HOW TO FIX YOUR MODS AFTER AN UPDATE
https://steamcommunity.com/app/1086940/discussions/2/3819669605964582294/
https://steamcommunity.com/app/1086940/discussions/0/3819669605964543536/#c3819669605964563088

Give them some love if you care about mods, instead of complaining that the game's patch broke your modded game.

If you find a bug, and it annoys you enough to make a thread about it - why not submit it quick and easy? Either per email or per form. Just complaining on a forums where Larian Studios developer are not actively present brings you what? Submitting a feedback ticket on the other hand gives a BIG CHANCE at the moment that the bug you reported will be addressed SOON. I cannot and will not give you details to that, just saying you should use that special time window.

Last but not least, I have read through all available support pages for Baldur's Gate 3. And it covers so much that circa 83% of all issues mentioned on the forums can be solved. Those pages are by all means not perfect, and there are even critical errors, especially after Patch#2. How I know that? I have read and tested them. It is really not hard to read through the support pages. They are written easy to understand and follow. Give them a chance - at least it would help to know and udnerstand what is written there before posting your issue. I do not mind if you do not, but then do not make it harder for everyone by not providing a DxDiag report.

Sometimes you feel you need just to vent. That is okay too. But not by spreading toxic ooze on everyone else. Especially not by camouflaging your rant as a help request.

Now... if anyone can please explain to me why the heck would ANYONE ASK that useless question whether someone else has the same issue? There is a search function for the forums after all! I would be delighted if someone can shed some light in that hilarious mystery!

I hope you do not need any troubleshooting and have a nice weekend ~

Happy adventuring! :mhwgood:

P.S.: Please consider giving stuff like these some love, will you?
*see link above - Steam does not allow me to repeat linking the guide for fixing mods*
If not, is it fine. But then have some understanding in how frustrating it is when you do put a lot of effort in something you are convinced it might help some, but it gets entirely ignored. And yes, those who recognise my posts know I am still pissed that my post on news got deleted and I know too well how such stuff gets ignored. We do not get anything more than a "thank you now and then". It is fine. But a fire extinguisher being ignored while everything is aflame at the same time just hurts.

This time (Hotfix#5) I try to lean back... Well, at least I try.

Reminder for Mac Users (Launch Prep, Launch Date 21.09.23)
I know you all are excited about the announced la-aunch from ear-ly access, and I also hope there will be another fun animation for that.

However, since the PC launch is a little while ago here is a reminder for you to deal with the savegames from early access and cleanup your installation.

Savegames from early access have a different structure and the leftover files can not only cause file incompatibilities which make it impossible to launch the full game, but they also can occupy Steam Cloud Service space, having made it hard for some people to use cloud saves

As in ~ imagine whenever you start the game, it downloads a few GB of savegames which you can no longer use. It has made some people crazy especially those who are low on storage space on C: but maybe that is just a Windows users' problem?

Anyroads ~ you have been warned reminded.

Affected PC users have already workarounds for such issues, but no idea if they apply for Mac the same way. So better be safe than sorry for having a good launch time on Thursday.

Oh, right - to avoid issues a la download speed congestion yadayada I also recommend you clear your Steam Download Cache by Wednesday. And if you still have issues with speed, remember that you can switch Steam Download servers.

Was there anything else... If so then I cannot think of it right now. Keep your excitement moderately that you do not blow up. I mean, it is like some Christmas week with first Baldur's Gate 3 finally coming to Mac and a few days later the new iphone stuff being released.

Have fun and happy adventuring! :mhwgood:

Game Update Reminder | Patch#3 & Mac Launch

https://twitter.com/larianstudios/status/1702023251478667279

You know the drill. I have reminded the Mac users a few days ago already about the early access stuff, in particular the cloud save games.

Windows users, as usual, beware of the typical

Disk Write Error | Unsupported File System

errors. If you want to play tomorrow right before the patch, make sure to have the update setting for the game to only when you launch it, so you can make a PC restart before the updates start to prevent the issue.

The game update routine with verification, library repair and levelcache cleaning is business as usual. If you are sitll using the Larian Launcher - may the gods of Faerune of mercy on you. On a side note: RAMDIsk for LevelCache works great.

Last but not least, if you are nervous, remember that you can make backups of your game and savegames right now and rollback the version in doubt.

Mod users, you know what you do. If not, consult the mod authors.

When having multiplayer issues check first whether you are playing the same version as the others as updates can "get stuck" as other Windows services when mistreated.

In doubt use DDU as usual and mind OS and graphics cards drivers update. As you know, depending on the nature of the update your graphics cards software might recognise the updated game as a new game and mess up with the settings. So keep that in mind, especially those of you who have to keep many things in mind when starting the game.

If your download gets stuck, check if you have enough space available on your storage or if you need to move the Steam Library content temporarily. And if it got stuck remember, you do not need to redownload everything. Just use the usual workarounds to continue the download normally.

Have fun and happy adventuring! :mhwgood:

Documenting this information for future reference

Context: Destruction of Emerald Grove Guardian Statues leads to constant lag; presumably persistent entity check error similar to Githyanki Patrol glitch; categorised as bug after confirmation of reliable reproduction - appearance with game Version Number: 4.1.1.3732833; status with Version Number: 4.1.1.3748643: unresolved

Originally posted by Cali_Modify:
This is specifically for Act 1, there are statues in the druid grove that can get bugged out and stuck in "falling into a chasm" mode permanently, causing a ton of game updates and adding an annoying delay on all actions.

Download https://github.com/Norbyte/bg3se/releases/download/updater-v3/BG3SE-Updater-with-Console-v3.zip and put DWrite.dll and ScriptExtenderSettings.json in your game directory "bin" folder, the console will start automatically as a separate window when you launch the game.

Load into a saved game

type anything(random letters or numbers for example) in the console and press enter, it should say "entering server Lua console."

Afterwards, copy paste in these commands:
TeleportToPosition("DEC_Druids_Statue_Wolf_A_Big_A_Destruct_471a3593-c5f2-4330-a245-babd7e292414",0,0,0,"",0,0,0,0,0)

These three statues (wolf, bear, eagle) are the only ones I've seen that cause this bug, so this script teleports them into the void and they stop receiving updates.

This is how I install mods on the Mac version. May change in the future. I included attachments as examples. Make a backup of your Larian Studios folder inside of Documents (Local) beforehand.

Works with simple pak files. Advanced mods requiring dll files or dependencies will not work since the game is fundamentally different.

1. Download and extract your mod
2. Open the info.json file inside the mod folder with Visual Studio Code (or similar) and take note of 3 values: Name, Folder, and UUID. (See 1.png)
3. Go to Documents (Local) > Larian Studios > Baldur's Gate 3 > PlayerProfiles > Public and open modsettings.lsx with Visual Studio Code (or similar)
4. Create a new ModuleShortDesc node in the Mods node and paste it under the GustavDev node (See 2.png)
5. Change the Folder, Name, and UUID values to the values of your mod and leave the Version64 value blank (See 3.png)
6. After you’ve saved your changes use Get Info on the modsettings.lsx file and check Locked (See 4.png)
7. Go to Documents (Local) > Larian Studios > Baldur's Gate 3 > Mods (Create the folder if it doesn’t exist)
8. Move your pak file from the mod you downloaded into this folder (See 5.png)
9. Play the game

I used The Debug Book[www.nexusmods.com] mod as an example.

You’ll need to unlock your modsettings.lsx whenever your want to make changes in the future. It has to be locked or it will be overwritten when the game sees a data mismatch.

Notes
ModOrder doesn’t matter. MD5 and Version64 in the ModuleShortDesc nodes can be left blank.

Mac version is Apple silicon native and uses Metal but still needs work. Seems like the GOG Mac version is the least good experience out there. Simple version of Larian Launcher. GOG Galaxy overlay, cloud saves, and achievements don’t work. Might be an issue with macOS Sonoma though, but that’s my experience.

You could use Parallels Desktop and play the game in Windows 11 if you have the overhead. Everything worked for me there using DirectX 11.

Tested on
Baldur’s Gate 3 v4.1.1.3732833
Larian Launcher v1.0.00
GOG Galaxy v2.0.71 (2)
macOS Sonoma 14.0 (23A344)

Notes in regards of Patch#4

- most graphics issues reported are related to corrupted files -> game update routine and cleaning cache routine takes care of that splendidly
- the known issues from GeForce Now since two Nvidia patches ago still persists -> GeForce Now issues are handled by GeForce Now support
- added written workaround for people who are low on storage drive to update BG3
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3069720593
- Shadowheart not following avatar could not be confirmed -> in doubt the usual spiel seems to do the trick with affected players aka take her out of party then re-add / some might even kill her, whatever works
- missing menu issue has been confirmed it is a mod related issue -> script extender something somewhat, some people are resistent to see that as mod
- magic mirror issues unclear -> there seem to be increased input delay in that regards, cannot confirm; mod issue probable
- the "invisible savegame issue" is getting another encore -> suspiscion grows strong that it has something to do with Windows settings
- missing scenes -> confirmed mod issue
- update deleting game -> repeated misunderstanding on how the patching process works, early termination can lead to complete file corruption; juliajayne mentioned their game tried to reinstall itself in a loop which is worrisome
- Linux users issues are advised to check on SteamDeck version; in doubt rollback still works
- graphics issues are related to new graphics settings -> again, if profile settings and levelcache are not properly cleaned; happened before with an earlier patch too
- hotfix to be expected by Friday evening / Tuesday
- personal observation: update went smoothly, game runs smoothly -> one anomaly detected: Steam Cloud Services for the game's savegame got reactivated, which caused some annoyance -> resolved with classic guide to purge Steam Cloud saves
- while I am finishing writing these notes down there is news from Nvidia addressing known issues about the missing menu, GeForce Now in particular -> so maybe no hotfix needed at all unless other issues can be confirmed in time

TL:DR; Changing it from 1.0 to 4.1.1.... won't help. You need to get the correct BG3.app and correct Info.plist file.

Happy gaming!

As a matter of course I cannot recommend the procedure as described, as it is almost a guaranteed path towards effective savegame corruption. Better is just to fix a game version when you play multiplayer. That way you can even use mods at ease.

Mac users, we continue to work on Patch 5 for your platform and expect it to have it available soon along with this last hotfix. We'll keep you updated here.

I encourage affected users to send an email to support@larian.com to give them the feedback that such information should be mentioned along the game's news on Steam. It is inacceptable that one has to find out about it by visiting X without any hints about that on Steam news.

Steam took in total circa 16-20 hours to validate my latest troubleshooting guide.
But now it is "properly cooked" as Larian would say.

I never understand why they say such about their patches. I am fond of half boiled eggs with the inside all jammy and raw. But that is another story ~

Thanks for this, it really helped a little bit, but unfortunately, if you start the local copy ("no update" in your guide), it is not possible to join Multiplayer games because it is not running under Steam: Friends cannot be found, you cannot find any server, invitations do not work, etc

But it helped me to think about it and I came with this solution. For this to work, some prerequisites are needed:
a) you and your friends are playing in Multiplayer, all in Steam
b) some play on PC, some play on Mac

Then, starting there, PC players can follow these steps to assure that, in the future, it is going to keep working
1. Disable the BG3 automatic update, select the "Update at start" option and CLOSE Steam (not close the window, close steam completely)
2. In windows Explorer, open the folder where the game is saved (instructions as in the guide)
3. Copy the bin and Data folder in the same folder, rename them bin-noUpdate and Data-noUpdate
4. Rename the bin folder as bin-original and Data as Data-original
5. Create a "symlink". To do that:
5.1. Open a Windows CMD Terminal as administrator (press Windows key and type cmd, select "Open it as administrator"
5.2. Using the command "cd", change into the directory where game is saved
5.3. Create symlinks for bin and Data pointing your noUpdate folders. Command is:
mklink /D bin bin-noUpdate
mklink /D Data Data-noUpdate

Done!

Now if you open Steam and start the game, it starts the "no Update" version with all Steam features (Multiplayer, yes!)

A PC VERSION UPDATE COMES:
If a new version is available (remember, it does not update until you start the game as in previous 1) in PC:
i. Close Steam, do not update the game
ii. Repeat steps 5.1 and 5.2. Now, we are going to create symlinks to the original game after deleting the current ones using these commands (do not close the CMD after that). VERY important to use rmdir instead of delete files!:
rmdir /Q bin
rmdir /Q Data
mklink /D bin bin-original
mklink /D Data Data-original
iv. Now, you can open again Steam and update the game. It updates the "original" folder and the internal Steam database

...BUT MAC VERSION IS NOT YET THERE:
v. After the update, close Steam and set the symlinks again to the noUpdate folder typing in the terminal:
rmdir /Q bin
rmdir /Q Data
mklink /D bin bin-noUpdate
mklink /D Data Data-noUpdate

...NOW MAC VERSION IS THERE:
Symlinks should point into the "original" folders, remove the noUpdate Folders and follow again the steps to create the noUpdate Symlinks (see above)

With this, you are set up for continuing playing with your MAC friends in that nice time between updates in both plattforms.

Constraints and advices:
- In general, disable the automatic updates, it gives you some time to search for a solution
- You can always start the game from the bin folders. It does not connect with your Steam account but shows you which version is running
- All PC players in the same group should do this. This solution is very good when only one player plays in PC and all other ones in Mac
- Maybe Steam detects this "hack" and blocks it, but as right now (05.12.2023) works like a charm

Comments are welcome!

That is a clever solution. Not bad! I like that!
Makes me think: why did I not think of that? - considering I am offering also a guide to change the savegame location on Windows based on junctions.

My approach is based under the assumption: while you cannot use Steam you still can use direct connections with the server ID.
https://i.ibb.co/446W717/screenshot-1701766491.png
So far I have never had any issues with that.

And while the idea with symlinks is awesome and it is great that you got it solved that way that you even can use Steam overlay with that, I worry if it could be too much for the casual PC user wheras a simple copy&paste is so much easier.

Nevertheless: thank you for that great solution and inspiration!

I would even like to say: why not turning it into a guide for easy sharing? You are the first I saw who brought up that kind of smart solution. It is definitely worth sharing as I imagine one of the drawbacks people dislike about my approach is the missing Steam overlay and related achievements. I imagine the Steam overlay works flawless in your case, am I right?

The best and simplest solution is to create symlinks. Just follow those simple steps:
1. Make sure all saves are downloaded from iCloud by right-clicking on the Larian Studios folder in documents and force download it ("download now").
2. Copy the "Larian Studios" folder into a place which is not synced with iCloud. I just created a new folder "Baldur's Gate 3 saves" in my user folder to keep it.
3. Delete the "Larian Studios" folder from "documents" folder.
4. Run this command from terminal:
ln -s "/path/to/new/copied/folder" "/path/to/where/it/used/to/be"
in my case it was:
ln -s "/Users/ant/Baldur's Gate 3 saves/Larian Studios" "/Users/ant/Documents"
And that's all. This creates a symlink to the save files allowing the game to access them as if they were in original place. It fixes the problem.

I managed to get it working and completed the game. However, there were no epilogues. Perhaps this is due to choosing to dominate the netherbrain, or perhaps it's just a result of how borked my save was.

Either way.

To make it work, did the following:

Install Script Extender:
https://github.com/Norbyte/bg3se/releases

The DLL goes into the same folder as the game's EXE file. The existence of, or the lack of, the Script Extender's JSON file is not relevant for this.

Once that's been placed into your EXE's folder, get the Database Cleaner:

https://www.nexusmods.com/baldursgate3/mods/5612

I used the "no time out" version. Installed it as I did any other mod using BG3MM.

The database clean up will happen when it loads your save game. This process takes what may be a considerable amount of time. So, like the instructions say, go make a cup of coffee or something and wait for it to complete. Do not task kill the game.

Once your save is loaded, save your game again. Wait a moment, then reload the new save that you just made.

At this point the game began to work for me once more. My nether stones were on the floor of my camp, and on picking them up I received credit for obtaining the netherstone. The game played Orin's (red girl, I think that's her name?) cutscene but not Gortash's, but regardless, it worked and I was able to finish the game.

Hopefully this works for someone else. Again, I have no epilogues, but I don't know if that's because of the evil ending or because of how borked my save was.

Have fun.

New patch, and once more: pretty much all issues are mods related or due to cache corruption.

The hopes that the information before the patch would help...
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3159316443
vanished instantly with heartbreaks day by day seeing bait threads getting millions of awards while my guides on troubleshooting hardly get any upvotes at all.

Also very surprising: the guide I thought would become obsolete became ... should be in demand again. The numbers do not really show it no idea why.

Cleaning Cache for Mac... maybe at some point later if the guide above does finally become obsolete, though I already doubt that

For some reasons the Japanese players who show appreciation, mostly silent but with awards, are soothing. They ask the right questions and every question they ask only helped me to improve my guides, despite the usage of translators. どーも

With the other majority I feel like Asuka Soryu Langley's catchphrase I can already make mine. :steamsad:
