Playing as origin characters

Is this the best way to experience their stories? To be honest some of them are pretty annoying and/or buggy as companions.

Do both, this game is insanely replayable. I personally have not played as any origin characters yet.

eh they expect you to be a custom i think but the origin characters have some special quests and stuff.

No it is the same experience.

But you have a pre build charakter with complete story. Some people can better empathize wiith that.

i think, best is to play custom character, so story of companions can be heard from aside.

The original intent is to play as the Dark Urge origin, which ties directly back to BG 1 and 2 but for some reason, they separated that out and made "custom" origin the default.

Playing as an Origin can be interesting , especially if you push a narrative thats counter to how there story usually is, such as playing an evil Wyll.

I have seen some bugs that only occur when playing as an origin character, like not getting an certain item as part of a personal quest reward. But if they are a companion it triggers fine and you get the item.

good to know. I think i will finish my dark urge play through and then put the game down for awhile and hope for some much needed bug fixes. I just don't think i want to play as a custom character so I was wondering about the origin characters, especially ones i didn't use in my dark urge play through

I'd honestly suggest to go with Dark Urge if you want your own character.

I've done a 'custom' run into Act II, then started over as Dark Urge, and it honestly is a wild ride compared to 'custom'.

Not going to spoil anything here, but even knowing the story in Act I, there were a few unexpected twists that hit like a sledgehammer.

Really enjoyable so far, good writing.

I'm actually curious how Karlach got her tadpole if her story is she just jumped on the second the Nautiloid gets sucked into Avernus. They make it seem like she was podded and wormed but that's not how it happens right? Am I missing something? Did she jump on and get podded and wormed super fast even though the Naut was in flames and under attack?

She wakes up next to a dead mindflayer, presumably she boarded, immediately got bonked and implanted. No pod

First, play wit your character.
Second, play with origin character you liked (and now you know their personality).
Third, Dark urge and cry in the corner of the room a lot.

The last Larian game I played before this, Divinity: Original Sin 2 (often called D:OS2) was such a game where you got more story depth (including special quests), by an incredible extent, than you received using custom characters. That is *the* reason I'm doing origin play-throughs for everyone in BG3, and at least one run with a custom protagonist, which is what I'm on now since I wrapped Laezel already. Felt good to let her stay dead after that ambush.
