Pact of Tome SUCKS!?
So, in table top, the Pact of the Tome lets you choose 3 cantrips from any spell book. But in BG3, it comes with 3 pre-selected cantrips that as far as I can see, you can't switch out or replace.

Am I missing something here? Or did Larian just give a massive nerf to this pact boon?

Yup, you absolutely can do that. lol.

It would be magical damage as well.

I already made Wyll bind the Blade of Tyr as his weapon... I can't imagine Tyr was very pleased with that...

Probably no less pleased considering whom it was taken off of.

Real question is why is Hexblade not a option for locks? The only actual warlock worth playing isn't even playable.

Pact of the Chain is the most OP of the choices they give you. Just grab that as your Imp does nice damage in most cases anyway.

Speak for yourself, man. Great Old One has been awesome. I can just read everyone's thoughts and know exactly what to say to get what I want.

Hit lvl 5 as pact of the tome, haste and animate dead.

Additionally thorn whip let's you rescue objects from lava as well as displace objects silently.

In my experience, Thorn Whip very rarely hits, even with my casting attribute as high as I can get it.

Honestly, if giving you access to every cantrip or ritual spell was off the table, I think it would have been good if the list of spells you get from Tome depends on your patron.

As it stands now, the spells granted by Pact of the Tome seem appropriate for an Archfey, but not so much for a Fiend or Great Old One.

Pact of Tome gives you Haste at level 5, your argument is invalid.

The strongest warlock setup in the game uses robes of potency, spellsparkler, ring of the absolute, glow ring and spell might with the phalar aluve shriek aoe up to blast 600-800 damage per eldritch blast. So pact of the chain and pact of the blade dont really give you anything. So I tend to take tome for the spells. I also need to take 6 sorcerer levels for lightning draconic for this setup to work so you can either do 10 sorc or a few more into warlock. Maybe even dip into fighter if you only want to EB.

Pact of the Tome slaps for main characters.

You get Guidance without sacrificing an equipment slot and needing Shadowheart in your vicinity at all times. If you didn't know, it grants you +1d4 to skill checks and you can cast it straight from the dice screen, no need to pre-cast it.

You get Call Lightning which is a great AoE spell that has won me encounters. You get up to 10 turns to use it per cast. Also a free Haste per long rest.

Early game Pact of the Chain can be useful for blinding enemies, but the rest of the game Tome wins.

I wish people would stop exaggerating these ridiculously high damage numbers when giving build guides and give the actual estimates instead.

Raphael is the tankiest enemy in the entire game, with an HP of 666.

Doing 600 damage per blast, with upwards of 3 blasts by level 12, means you can one shot literally any opponent the game throws at you.
