Necromancy
So... When I can actually act the part of a Necromancer? Level 4, and still nothing viable for a Necro. Kind of disappointing, as it won't let me do what I wanted in the game. (You know, have minions instead of companions... Though, I'm forced to keep companions around because of this).

Animate Dead becomes available at level 5.

It's a 3rd level spell.

That's honestly too long of a wait. Even worse that's it takes until half the level cap to get anything related to raising dead. Maybe I'm just better off doing something else, and waiting for a mod to make it better. *Sigh* Expected too much, so my fault.

Honestly, I doubt you'll be able to make a real undead party anyway.

Not sure how they implemented necromancy in this game since I haven't tried it yet, but I'd expect there to either be a time limit to the undead, whether it's how long you can control them or how long you can keep them animated. Maybe limit to the number of corpses you can puppet too. Also it'll always be limited by spell slots.

Either way, I 'm pretty sure it'll never be a proper replacement for a party.
From my experience with D&D/Pathfinder games, if you want your own goon squad it's usually better to go for Druid or Conjurer wizard, or even Sorcerer with conjuration spells anyway instead of necromancy. But hey, I could be completely wrong for once.

At that point, I'm just better off waiting for mods that will make my ideal play through possible. Which is saddening. Even Pathfinder gave you ways to have an undead army if you wanted it, and it's even based off DnD mostly. Can't see why they couldn't allow the same here. >__<

It's really not. Assuming that you've managed to reach level 3 by this point, you can get to level 4 very quickly if you kill the ogres in the Blighted Village, then take a detour and go wipe out the Zhentarim Outpost.

I don't know any tricks to reaching level 5 quickly, but I can promise you should be able to reach it before you actually get to Moonrise Towers.

Also, I misspoke earlier. Raise Dead is a 5th level spell, while Animate Dead is 3rd level.

clearly you're a smooth brained peasant. I played pathfinder and you don't even get to actually raise the dead till half way through the game. You don't become an actual lich until the end game.

so why try to lie here? are you just that pathetic in real life?

You won't be able to have an undead party like WotR here, you are not a Mythic Lich. Furthermore this is based on 5th edition while Pathfinder is based on 3.5, so things will work differently in general even if they look similar. For example, Magic Missile will always fire 3 missiles instead of 1-5 based on Caster Level. Unless you upcast it with higher spell slots, something that doesn't really exist in Pathfinder/3.5.

By my understanding, most summons are limited to 1 at a time. Wizard Necromancer is the exception in that his Animate Dead will raise 2. Also Zombies can raise an extra, weaker zombie if they kill something or it dies on the same turn they hit it. Create Undead should also appear later in the game, much later, which can create Ghouls.

Then I guess I wait for mods to make it better. Which I can be patient for.

I’m going to assume you’ve never played tabletop DND.. idk what mods someone would create for this since it’s already pretty accurate, unless they’re just going to crazy stuff. This is how it works table top, this is how it works here. (Aside from edits for game compatibility, since you can’t really calculate 24 hours and there are no ways to create your own spell scrolls from what I understand). If you’re wanting mods.. look into one that allows you to create spell scrolls and get your hands on a ton of extra spell slot potions (and magic gemstones if this game has them, I haven’t seen them yet). That’s how you really build a massive army (at least on table top 5e), spending a few days blowing through your slots and long resting immediately after until you have a ton of scrolls then using them all in one day for a huge army. For sustainability purposes, though, idk what to tell you.. the daily cap is the daily cap & as a necromancer those slots are all you have and they’re all for maintaining your undead.

I have, but I played 3.5e and only played as a Barb. But, that's how I like tabletop DnD. Video Games, Necromancer tends to be my favorite class. And I'm good now, as mods came out and made Necromancer better. ^_^

Animate dead was a 4th level spell for wizards (and dread necro lmao) in 3.5 though, you'd have to wait even later.

Necromancer is a "respec to" concept in BG3 - it takes a long time to get to the benefits - which really don't start happening until around level 10 meaning end of act 2 or act 3. So, don't worry about this subclass - pick something else and respec into it.

People are too used diablo necromancers with armies. Thats not what you get in dnd.
Precache Sep 20, 2023 @ 5:14am
It's not really that type of role playing game. It hands you a role and you play it. Give it a try, you might like it. It let's them do more with the story.

My only complaint about Necromancy in this game is, its very selective. There's been plenty of times I've been around corpses, and used Create Undead or Animate Dead and had the game go "this corpse can't be reanimated or created"

And I'm sitting here with my eye brow raised going "wait, what?"
