Forest gnome illusion Wizard is so ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ BiS it’s insane. A magic lawn gnome omggggggggg
Who doesn't love a god-wizard? Excepting those who don't know better.
No he didn't. You just don't see it because they transmuted themselves into one of the other categories..
Transmutation: I love psychedelics
Portent is just so so good
Evocation: Translates fine, not bad, but blasting is inferior within the ruleset.
Conjuration: Primary ability won't translate. Not that good, there are no summons of consequence in the Player's Handbook, they'd need to add Tasha's summoning spells. Not that many good conjuration spells in the game.
Enchantment: Will translate if they implement multi-targeting. Kind of meh, at least until level 9 when one can get the 5th level spell Modify Memory.
Necromancy: Will translate, but poor mechanically. Unless they implement Grim Harvest as temporary HP and allow significantly better zombies and skeletons through Animate Dead. The Necromany spells in the game are the worst of any school period.
Illusion: Only a single ability will really translate. And that ability will be a bit wonky to implement even with the reaction system. Illusion spells, beyond low level defensive ones, won't translate at all.
Abjuration: Will translate, but not that interesting. And how are you gonna recharge the ward? Even the classic Shield spell is not in the game.
Divination: Can Translate if they use the reaction system. Portent will require it to be used effectively. Nothing else of consequence in the sub-class. Probably the best Wizard sub-class in the game.
Transmutation: Primary ability won't translate. Its other abilities suck, not worth talking about.
I mean, just look at Minor Illusion in BG3 compared to it's TT version.
I viewed Conjuration as the school of "make it somebody else's problem."
Conjuration-Abjuration can turn your Wizard into a melee fighter, or a demon/monster summoner (bonus pts if you use Enchantment to bind them to your will).
You're only looking at the surface.
Conjuration is about conjuring things, whether that be magical blades, flaming spheres, or extraplanar beings. Their signature subclass feature is literally the abity to conjure any mundane object under a certain size/weight, not summon.
Evocation is largely about energy blasts, so most people take it for the attack spells, but here's a small same of Evo spells that don't even deal dsmage:
Dancing Lights
Light
Cure Wounds
Divine Favor
Faerie Fire
Darkness
Gust of Wind
Daylight
Leomund's Tiny Hut
Just to name a few...
