The game doesn't launch.

Every time I click to launch the game no matter if its compatibility mode or not it says its playing for a few seconds then gives me the option to play again without launching.

Things I have tried:

Updating graphics drivers
Ran as admin
Uninstalled and reinstalled
used the -novoip + -nosound launch options (with one more but the command was so long I forget what it was)
installed the direct x directly from microsoft
disabled windows defender
removed my audio drivers and reinstalled them
removed managing software like MSI Afterburner, etc
reduced monitor amount to 1
removed VR hardware

genuinely at a loss. If anyone has any idea what's happening please help. (I would post logs if I could but since no game is launching there are none)

Specs:
AMD Ryzen 5 3600 6-core
MSI Radeon 580 Armor 8GB
16gb RAM corsair vengeance
Corsair 550W PSU
Samsung 860 EVO 500GB
Seagate 1TB HDD

In your case, try going to C:\Users\YourUserName\Zomboid and delete the "logs.zip" file and see if that helps?

i have the same error as the OP and when i run the bat file i get this in the last few lines

Error occurred during initialization of VM
ZGC requires Windows version 1803 or later

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\ProjectZomboid>PAUSE

In your case, try going to C:\Users\YourUserName\Zomboid and delete the "logs.zip" file and see if that helps?

My fix was that I had to make a whole other windows account, reinstall everything and run it from the BAT file instead of the exe.

I just ran into this issue today. I played for a bout 2hrs yesterday after installing. Then today I go to open game and it goes through the loading text and just goes black screen and unresponsive. I uninstalled, reinstalled and same thing. I verified files and tried again....nothing. I deleted log file and launched and same thing. I went into install folder and tried launching directly as admin....same thing.

In your case, try editing the ProjectZomboid64,bat file and change the "UseZGC" line to "UseG1GC", the game should work after that.

now i can launch the game from the bat file but cant through steam it just gives me the option to play few seconds after i press start

I had to delete my entire "C:\Users\username\Zomboid" folder in order for it to work. My guess is it was trying to load in old files from a previous build. Lost my settings and such but at least it runs. I also unsubscribed from any workshop mods.

In your case try deleting the jre folders as menitoned and then verifying files?

When ever I try to launch the game it prompts me with *Steam must be running to play this game (SteamAPI_Init() failed).* Anyone have a clue on what I should do. (this is prompted after I hit start from steam. Also I updated my drivers as well so that cant be it.)
