41.50 refugee can't launch 41.53
ayyy i'm currently shifting from 41.50 to "either" of the two beta options for .53 but i can't get my game to launch via steam at all. I did some various reading in the discussions and found something kinda similar that at least let me launch the game via the zomboid.bat file in local files. Is there a fix to this or am i just destined to launch PZ from the bat file and not via steam now?

I've tried these solutions so far:
-removed mods (and readded them, nothing changed)
-complete reinstall
-reverting betas (each of the other versions launch properly except both 41.53 versions)
-hard removed all old data (including saves, dedicated server data, /appdata/ data)

I'm having the same problem, my game just doesn't work anymore in the .53 version not even for the .bat. In the .50 version at least I could play :(

Mine completely disappeared... Anyone know what's going on? I'm back to playing b41.

Build 41.53 may fail to start for several reasons

Notes: The installation directory on Windows should be %ProgramFiles(x86)%\Steam\steamapps\common\ProjectZomboid for most Windows 64-bit users. User files are stored in %UserProfile%\Zomboid. You should be able to copy either of these into the address bar of any folder to get there.

A) We changed the EXE to detect the version of Windows you use. Antivirus software (mainly Avast) sees this change and marks the file as suspicious. This either results in quarantining it or preventing the exe from running.

To fix this, you need to do any of the following: add an exception for the exe files in the AV; disable realtime protection for the AV; or uninstall the AV software and restart your computer. (The default windows anti-virus is very good and tends not to make these mistakes.)

Or, you could run the bat files directly. They’re the files with an icon featuring a white and blue gear instead of a red and black egg (if file extensions are hidden on your system).

B) ZGC, the new pause-less garbage collector, is not supported on your system. This could be because our version check failed, you’re running a version of Windows made prior to mid 2018, or for unknown reasons. You can get around this by running the ProjectZomboid32.bat, which defaults to g10 instead of zgc.

Note that this is not an ideal solution because 32-bit support has been discontinued on our end for some reasons, even though it still works. Instead, you could open the ProjectZomboid64.json file in Notepad and change the ZGC line near the end to match the check above it. If you have 64-bit, its’ better to change the json or the bat file by removing the zgc flag.

C) The move to LWJGL may have increased the OpenGL requirements slightly. Try updating your graphics drivers and \see if it lets you play. This will show up in the log (%UserProfile%\Zomboid) as an error about OpenGL being unsupported, or something to that effect.

Build 41.50 was supposed to be only temporary, letting people finish up their games, it was then taken down this week, 2 months after we announced this back in June and again in July. Sorry for any confusion this caused, we’ll make sure it’s clearer if this is to happen again.
